Always late to the party - I've just started learning to bake it. Lots of fun, tastes delicious!

Can't beat home made bread. I've been baking my own for years. My sour dough starter is about 10 years old. Your loaf looks superbly tasty.

Looks very nice Paul. I've never had much success with bread making, but I love the smell! Mine never seems to rise properly.

I copped out & bought a breadmaker - I have my own recipe with spelt, wheatgerm and allspice - I can set it to bake, so that it finishes just before breakfast. but that's dangerous! You could eat half a loaf easily ( OK they're only small loaves! ) I usually only make bread at the weekend, and in winter. It runs out rather expensive, the fancy flour, but there's nothing like the smell & taste of fresh bread

I have to confess I use Marmite on my bread!

Of course, all rational people use Marmite!

We bought a breadmaker a few years ago. We found the recipes had far too much sugar in, and by the time we'd worked out how much to reduce the amount given in the recipe the widget that stirs the mix together had come loose on the drive shaft and the guarantee had run out.
Funnily enough, at least three of my great-uncles and a few other relatives were professional bakers.

I do love good quality bread and also love cooking but have never ever made my own bread.

Maybe this is something I should do.

As for Marmite, no way. It's disgusting.

My wife, being Australian, swears that Vegemite is loads better than Marmite, although she still likes Marmite. To me they both taste and look and smell the same. Awful.

Vegemite better than marmite! Sacrilege! It’s a gutless facsimile with no real flavour! If you want disgusting, try gentlemen’s relish……now that’s horrible.

And so was Sandwich Spread - we used it in Casualty Simulation - regurgitated of course!
