discussion Weathering a German tank ?

im at the point in one of the three builds I have on the go at the moment of the weathering stage now I'm used to doing a desert weathering but now I'm a bit stuck on the standard German grey I know what to do for shadow but I don't know whether to do a pin wash and then shadow or a full wash to give water stains then shadow,

if its desert shouldnt it be a yellowy colour?


id use latex to create a chipping effect under dark yellow, then a sepia wash, then some dust

Try dots of oil paint in light grey, light blue & white on the edges of panels for a colour modulation effect Alan. Use a stiffish brush to move the paint around until you have a blended thin layer that's almost translucent.


The same effect can be achieved using dark colours at the lower edges for shadows.

The first step is a modulation work. Then you will see it absolutely different

Looks ready for a gloss coat and wash.


Lots of nice panels for a colour modulation, the pic itself is a nice clue where to highlight and where to shadow.
