Scale Model Shop

Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.

This will be my second build. It’s a straight forward kit so there should be no problems. I’ll be adding more details to it also. The kit comes with a base that Replicates it’s on the water I’m going to try to improve that also. I’m getting out of my Comfort zone with this kit. 840CC617-E0BD-40F9-B6FB-06B7632450AF.jpeg

Funny, just today a modeller friend of mine tried to interest me in the 1:35 scale Italeri counterpart that also comes with a bunch of infantry. I declined, I have enough I want to build already :)

I know the feeling. I’ve had this thing in storage for many years so might as well build it that’s what I bought it for at time. I think it will give me some good experience or a good defeat lol.

Even though I have quite a few kits in WIP, being new to the forum I'd really like to take part in this GB, to get to know you guys a bit better. It's also a pretty important subject and I had a great Uncle in the SAS who was killed not long after D-Day.

So I've been mulling over my entry for the last week or so. I did consider building a P-47 but thanks to the encouragement you all have given me in my Sherman build, I really do feel I'm finally, after 15 years of wanting to, breaking into 1/35 Armour modelling and I'd like to continue that Journey.

I do have both a Tamiya Willys Jeep and Italeri GMC 6x6 Truck with relevant June 1944 markings, and I may still build one or the other, but what I really fancy building is one of these...

I've checked Scalemates and the kit does come with June 1944 in Normandy decals. Not the most successful of designs, but a fun subject.

I might even see if I can do a simple base for it.

Cheers

AJ.

After searching deeper I found a better LCVP Landing Craft. This will be the one I’ll be building. I can’t believe I missed this one. This will save me a lot of work on the other one. I will use some of the figures from the Pegasus kit for this one. I Just ordered it 55F7C8EE-B266-4653-BF3C-EB5AE63EAC94.jpeg

Very nice Arnold I like it.

I built two when they were first released, and quite liked putting them together. Only thing is that they don’t come with a crew, but you’ve got the other kit to pillage that from, of course :)

I'd like to take a swing at this - it's a great topic.

I have absolutely no idea what I will build, but given that t can be pretty much anything Allied and D-day related I feel confident that I'll find something, probably with black and white stripes, but you never know :)

I'll probably miss the starting gun, but I'll join in when I can.

This just arrived in the post! I will hold off opening it until the start date but i'm set now!
