discussion Which pastels?

ok, here is stupid question number 381 for tonight.


Which pastels are the ones i need to make my own pigments for dust, rust, sand etc. Ive seen videos showing them used, but it doesnt say which ones.


Hobbycraft stock Faber Oil Pastels, and also Faber Soft Pastels.


Which one is it? The soft pastels come in more colours.

Best to use the soft pastels Dave & the best quality you can afford - cheap ones take a lot of grinding!


Oil pastels are good for making up sludgy washes though

Careful as well Dave when buying on line or not in an art shop as very few


tell you or know if they are as Patrick says soft pastels or oil.

I bought myself some soft pastels with plenty of earth colours, so perhaps my next armour will come out excellent!
