discussion Who smokes more when modelling?

Hi there people!

I need to know i'm not alone. I am a self-confessed smoker and am trying to rid myself of the habit but when modelling i find myself taking those few extra puffs.

You know when you've been bent over work desk for hours dealing with fiddly bits or painting labourously, cutting out and cleaning up about 24 wheels parts and twiddling your fingers waiting for parts to dry, you just think emmmm, to fill the time, why not enjoy a smoke - or two.

Is anyone else wearing the same shoes here? Can anyone think of any subsitutes like, emmm, going for a jog around the block (It's -10 degrees where i am so outside sports are out of the question) What do you modellers do to fill the time?

Any thoughts welcome from a nervous twitching Ex-pat

I'm also a smoker too Paul & although I'd like to give it up, I know that I don't have the willpower! Now I time things by smoking-the time that it takes for multi-link tracks to cement together but still remain pliable? 2 ciggies! There's more but I'm not going to put ideas in anyone's head! Keep puffing, Patrick

Today for example i started on my Jagdpanzer IV L/70; did the back panel, had a fag, needed to read the instructions for the next section - over a fag, attached the suspension then had a fag, read the instructions for the next section - over a fag.

I've come up with a new idea but my girlfriend didn't agree. I suggested having a punch bag by my table to smack it during breaks as well as releasing tension when i've just glued my fingers to some detail.

I wish i could smoke less. The problem is i can't smoke at work - well, only during the few breaks i have so i guess i overdo the puffing at the weekend during modeeling time.

Plus, fags here in Russia cost me about 40 Rubles - 80p for a normal packet of 20. I could buy a packet for about 10p but then my lungs would bleed. So trying to give up in a place where everyone smokes and it being so cheap, it's difficult Plus, it belongs to my profession

I had to give up a couple of years ago. A heart attack was all the incentive I needed, but if it helps give you a bit of incentive:

I used to spend about £30 per week on ciggies - now most of that goes into my stash!

PS Giving up smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done - despite my particular reason for doing it. I wish you luck with your attempt.

good luck trying to quit,paul, i gave up ages ago, i fill the waiting time between processes by having two or three kits on the go at the same time,while one kit is at a standstill i can do something on one of the others(this is of course if youve got space to have bits of kits laying all over the place !!!) which probably explains why ill not post any pics for ages,then like buses ,three come along at once!! cheers tony (udacha with the quitting!)

That's a good idea. I'll try that then by having several projects on the go.

As was mentioned by Gern, yeah sometimes we take drastic measures when faced with drastic circumstances. I'm 31 (still a relatively young lad) and i will go cold turkey for 2010

as a cigar smoker [wooden box's of 50] if I gave up, I would have to quit modeling - where else could I get the wood for planking LOL

Personally I am a "dipper". Not sure if many people on your side of the pond do that but I do find that when I am hunched over my bench I constantly have a large pinch.

I would try to quite... but it evens me out. haha
