Hi all,

There are some items I want from America and as I think I understand it anything over £20 I will pay import tax on, is there a way to work out how much I will pay in tax?

Adrian

Hi Adrian I would suggest going to the source and looking it up on there, as far as I can tell it`s a percentage on goods, hope this helps.

You will also have import duty which I think is £13.50 and/or £8 for Royal Mail, they work out the import tax/vat by guessing what they think it's worth then add a little for good luck and charge you that, usually same as normal VAT 20%

And just for good measure, you get to pay duties on the postage/shipping charges as well :-/

As far as possible I always try to stay within the EU and slip for all the expenses and hassle.

Another way that sometimes works, is to get a friend to buy it and send it as a gift. "Commercial" packaging with company logo' and the like get pulled all the time, handwritten addressed and postage stamps more often than not slip through...

I'm after the lighting kit for a Starfury at $49.99, I've tried looking around the internet but cant see it anywhere else :( Adrian

You could try an electronics shop. If they cant help directly, they might have a customer that can...

LED lights are cheaper than chips and not that hard to sort out once you know what you need.

Thanks, but I'm like when O'Neill has things explained to him in Stargate,,, hopeless!

I guess I could buy one then copy in for other builds :)

I feel sorry for you lot, you get charged over the top for everything in the UK by the sounds of things.
