discussion WW1 Kits

I normally build WW2 planes and the occasional tank or truck but with it being 100 tears since the end of WW1 I have been looking at kits for this era.
Forgive me of my ignorance, but I would like to know why some tanks are 'male' and some 'female'. I have attempted bi planes a couple of times in the past but can never get the wings to go properly so I may give tanks, guns and other vehicles a go.

As i remember it was to do with the kind of armourment.....male had cannon whilst female was machine gun only....someone correct me if im wrong please

Paul,
Male tanks were armed with 2 X 6-pdr (57mm ) guns, the female tanks were armed with machine guns only. There was a hermaphrodite version, which had a cannon on one side & machine guns on the other. There are now a few WWI tanks available now, in 1/35, apart from the British Mks I to V, The French Renault FT-17, Schneider, St Chamond, and the German A7V.
ICM do a nice range of Ford Model T ambulances, and scout cars

Takom also did a nice looking Mörser artillery piece in 1:35 - I have one of those to be built for my gauge 1 WWI German war train.

If you're after figures to go with a vehicle, ICM have a good range in 1/35.

Thanks everyone for the input. Definatly going to bulid something from this era but decided I must finish whats on the bench first. Got a 1/72 Lancaster and a 1/32 Mosquito on the go.
