This is my first completed airfix kit.


1/72 scale.

Awesome that these rolled out 100 years ago.


No problems with the kit, perfect for a quick weekend build. I opted for the kits paint guide because it looked fun.

This looks very good indeed and that mud effect has really been well represented.


I really like the trackways left by the behemoth.

That's excellent Aaron! I like how you've gone for a dried mud, dusty look rather than the wet mud effect.

I'm not sure what you mean John, the groundwork is real sifted soil. The dirt on the tank is pigments and static grass.

Beautiful work for such a small scale Aaron, your colors and ground work are superb, I especially like the grass, 'static grass' is it? like with model railroad stuff?


Will be doing a lot of grass in my upcoming dio, hope it turns out half as good as yours...........Jim

Thanks Jim, yep plain old static grass with some chopped up makeup brush bristles mixed in for length difference. The groundwork was given a wash of black acrylic paint to eliminate the static grass sheen.

Really nice, Aaron. I love the dirt and grime on the tank, and as others have said, the mud and grass is a work of art. Airfix in the early days (I assume this is the 70s kit) had a habit of covering their kits with rivets. This was just about the only subject where this was appropriate!

Love this Aaron ! its a great scene and looks totally real.The way you have painted and weathered the tank is superb ,as is the base , you can almost sense the massive weight. All this in 1/72 too!! great job , cheers tony
