Well said Polux. What puzzles me is how did this all come about ? Certainly not by moderators having to exert discipline as on other forums by the hour !

As Scott says it could be the fact of there being no serious rivet counters, no-one out just to post an argument, no people who think they're the ''god of the modeling world'',

Every time I visited other forums when looking for one to join there seemed to be at least three of each of the above types that had posted in the previous hour.. Not for me.

Maturity, friendly banter and comradeship are what I like here....

You guys are right about other forums, I joined two before this one I never posted anything though, I read the general chat section first to see if there were any argumentative people on there, I did the same here but was amazed how friendly it was so I stayed, no one on here criticises anyone and if you do something that is wrong or doesn't look right then you get positive tips and advice, I like that

i agree with all that

ive tried most of the forums out there and hate the big ones that seem to be impersonal and full of people who either want to rivet count or want to engage in oneupmanship

i much prefer smaller freindly ones, im now active on only 4 forums and this is probably the joint biggest

in the past ive joined forums where its impossible to break into the clique or inner circle, where your work is virtually ignored.........i well remember another which had an overzealous admin,.....the rules section included a large thread about posting pics,,,,,had to be composed right, in focus, lit correctly, no cluttered workbench etc etc,,,,,,after a few days of joining i started getting warnings in my posts (but not actually telling me what the warnings were for!),.....turned out he was a grammar nazi and didnt like that i fall in the habit of not using capital letters a lot, and also didnt like my uk-english spelling and he was american (which annoys me since we invented the language!! lol)........i said it seemed a bit draconian...........next time i logged in i found myself banned, deleted and ip address blocked!......and i know it happened to someone else i know well.......things is what goes around comes around.......he closed the forum in a hissy fit and lots of the members, including him decided to join another forum..................one where me and my also banned mate are moderators *evil laugh* we wernt nasty or anything but we did have our say

but ive not encountered any such thing here, quite the opposite...........i actually like the fact everyones real name with their avatar, so everyone gets called by their real name, nice touch

I've had a lot of that on forums, most of them are keyboard warriors, in real life they are probably the meekest person you would ever meet but online they can be the boss and very brave I've got no time for them

It's not necessary 'to kill' the other forums

The missage is clear; a friendly Family...with all kind of members and skills. Where is no place for the best and worst modeller!!

We have to follow this way and help our staff members to keep it.

Some are saying that they lose interest in kits, maybe long ones? I wonder why? Is it when things don't go well? Is it when the end seems a long way off? Does the thought of the next kit override the thoughts of the current kit? That last point makes me think. Some people have huge stashes. Some have said they will never build them all. So why a large stash?

My experience as a new starter has been great - some fantastic advice, not a whisper of disapproval of newbie habits or skillset, and one member even sent me a starter airbrush kit. "The perfect forum"? As close as I've ever seen!

Yes I totally agree with your sentiments Alasdair.

I like to have a few kits in the stash to give me choice. If say I get to the end of the jets I am doing and decide I want to do a couple of prop aircraft or rotary I have them to hand. I don't have to go to town or on line and wait. That doesn't mean I don't go to these places how else would I have got the stash. Also if money was to get really tight I have enough kits to keep me happy for a while.

It's all about helping each other to build hopefully better models, mutual support. The last thing I (and I hope anyone else) would want is a "my model is better/more accurate than yours" type of pissing match. Everyone builds for fun and to the best of their abilities and that must be good enough for everyone! If you want to build a purple Spitfire then build it. It's your model and you should have your fun building it.

I'd quite like to see it too

there is no doubt that modelling can be addictive and we can buy loads of models for our stash , i have learnt personally that variation is the thing that keeps me fresh , build a tank then a ship or maybe a truck, along with you guys on the forum from all parts of the world we have a bit of banter/advise and i don't think there is another forum like this, so keep it up guys , im getting all flushed now must have been that curry

I must be lucky as this is the first forum I looked at.I liked what I saw so decided to join.I hate clubs or any organised groups that have cliques .Ive joined IPMS and occasionally posted photos on the Facebook page.Despite things I have heard about IPMS,people on there have been very complimentary of my models.Theres a branch that meets in Southend and Ive got as far as emailing the club president but haven't attended a club meeting yet.To me this is just a hobby I enjoy.Im not the best modeller and don't need people pointing out faults in my builds.Im fully aware of the mistakes I make.I don't get enough modelling time.So an evening at a club meeting would be lost model making time.What happens at these meetings anyway?.Part of me wants to go along to one some day.On the subject of the stash, I like to have a selection of kits to choose from.I may read about a certain aircraft and get an urge to build it,so i buy a kit of it.Then by the time ive finished the one im making at the time of the purchase i will probably want to build something else.So the previously purchased kit gets put in the stash.And thats how the stash grows.At the moment Ive got 22'which for me is enough.Four of them are 1/72 scale and I will probably never make them as I only do 1/48 these days.So really Ive only got 18!.
