What flew over your house (yesterday)

Well I'm a little bit late with this one, but yesterday Saturday 4th I was visited by 2 or maybe 4 Sptifires.

It was a formation of two, which probably re-appeared about 30 mins later flying in a slightly different direction, still easterly so maybe it was two different formations after all !

I live in Weston, near Stafford and can't imagine why they would fly such a large circuit around here. But anyway, even though they were at quite some height - wow the noise, or maybe I should say sound ?? You know what I mean.

It's Cosford next week, but they're a bit early for that so I think it will remain a pleasant mystery for me.

Anyone else seen / heared anything interesting now we are in the show season ?

    Regards

    Colin M.........

Ashbourne would be NE of me, so it might be possible you saw the same. It was very roughly 1430 when they flew over.

Not had any "prop" aircraft fly over for ages ... we just get a frequent shooting over of a low level jet or two but more frequently 'troop carrying' choppers off on their way to the Northern Scottish bases ... still a sight to enjoy though

About the only thing that flies over my house on a regular basis is the West Midlands Police helicopter :emo10:

We live between to airports Copenhagen and Roskilde so there is always commercial or private aircraft buzzing the garden.

The most exotic we see is the medivac chopper and airforce Merlins on the way to find some poor guy lost in the sound....

He was very low saturday. I waved at the guy sitting in the door and he waved back!!!!

As I only live a few minutes drive from Epsom downs had a lot of choppers going back and forth on Friday and Saturday for the Derby , normaly its just light aircraft coming from or to Biggin Hill or Farnborough and now and again Chinoocks always two or three at a time and man do they make a noise you can hear them coming from miles away .

LOL Richy, I would just like to say a Merlin hovering 100ft above the house makes quite a lot of sound to. I could see our windows wobbling in time with the thud-thud-thud of the rotors.

Why are they never around when I have the camera handy.

A bit off topic, but a funny story; We had a visit here in Denmark from a Mr Obama. Denmark was for all intents and purpose closed while he was flying in and out of Copenhagen. Living not that far (1/2 drive) from the motor way the air lanes where deserted except for police and army chopper.

I had come home from work and had gotten a package; my new rod-pod for my carp fishing. Its formed like a tripod, with rails on top to hold the rods.

Without giving it a second thought I set it up in the garden to have a look at it..... Turns out I was not the only one that was interested in seeing it. within two minutes I had two police and a merlin circling around the house. The police, not a problem, what are they going to do, take a photo... The guy in the merlin with the chain gun.......Not so easy to laugh off. He had his binoculars up in no time. He must have been a fisherman too, he just waved and they flow off again.

I did hear from my neighbour, a police man, that he had heard that I was setting up suspicious equipment in the back garden though.

Had a similar experience Ian , going back 6-7 yrs now I was doing some building maintenance work with another guy at No 1 Millbank opposite houses of parliment which was the head offices of Church of England anyway that day the Queen was doing her yearly opening of parliment or something along them lines , me and my mate went on to a flat roof near the top of the building to have a fag and watch her going in ( it was a great view ) next thing armed police and C of E security were on us within no time , we got a big time bollocking and were told police and army snipers were watching every move we made and were very lucky boys , looking back we were idiots for even thinking about going on that roof , still you live and learn , ended up outside Millbank on the streets with thousands of other people and could not see a thing but did end up smoking about 5 fags to calm the nerves lol.

Just looked up IL98 on the internet. It was a proposed twin engined airliner that was never built. The four engined job is an IL96.Wait till i see Mr clever dick tomorrow. He dismissed my hobby as i dont scratch build the entire model for christs sake.

I live next to an airport, I also work there, boooooooooooooooring

We did have a Spitfire land about 6 years ago, since then zilch of interest apart from the odd Chinook. I often wonder what kind of kick the plane spotters up there get out of it but whatever floats your boat I suppose

Apart from a ba***rd magpie that wakes me up every morning, (it's getting the .22 treatment soon) I live in an army house so I always get chinooks come in low over my house as I left next door to the barracks drill square and they really do take roof tiles off lol... The merlins are nice and quite I find due to having those weird rotors! You can't hear them coming...
