I haven't a clue what flew over yesterday. But this morning we woke to clear blue skies and con-trails criss crossing the blue sky in a brilliant random pattern, so someone had flown over!!! Wish I had my phone with me. All those people flying off or returning from exotic places!!

Tha last 2 days we’ve had what looks like a Robison R22 do a few orbits over the top of the island. Didn’t take a snap as my phone wouldn’t have been any good. Must have done a few tight turns to left/east of me and out of sight as the rotors were seriously biting into the cold air!!
Reckon it was from Bournemouth Hurn airport.Comment

Heh, funny, I think* I saw one of those fly over here yesterday, heading more or less west. Perhaps it’s the same one
* The helicopter was hard to see, just a small silhouette against the grey sky, but I think I could see the shroud around the rotor shaft, which is a pretty positive identification feature.Comment

Two helicopters flew past today, too far to properly make out what they were even when I grabbed my binoculars. However, if I had to make a guess I’d say they were probably Lynxes, and in two-colour camouflage, which is odd because I can’t imagine who would be flying camouflaged Lynxes around here, let alone towards the sea. They were too sleek to be Pumas, but the only sleek helicopters you see around here sometimes are AW139s, but they’re dark blue due to being operated by the police, plus you only ever see one of those at a time, not two flying one behind the other.Comment

I can’t check, of course, but you may well be right there. Wildcat looks like Lynx 2.0, so I’m guessing they might have been at some Dutch base and were heading back to a British ship …?Comment

UK Wildcats do exercise a lot in Western Europe. We don't have 'Lynx' anymore. Us old pharts get told off when we refer to the 'Cats' as Lynx Mk10!!! Not forgetting the Army operate Wildcats too, and there is always the JHF or whatever it's called these days. (JHF - Joint Helicopter Force.)Comment

Same here, they got replaced by NH90s, and in any case our Lynxes never had two-tone camouflage, so I could rule that out. But as I thought I remembered the UK also doesn’t use Lynx anymore, I was kind of puzzled what they could be. Though I was aware of the existence of Wildcat, it’s one of those things that’s too new for me to remember easilyComment
