Thought about heading into my loft today to attempt to start finishing my Tigers, then thought again.
Have you ever started on a project and then added to it and added to it until it becomes so huge that it scares you to even attempt finishing it? i just dont know where to get restarted!
Oh well....maybe get some get up and go next summer!Comment

We read the will and my dad being my dad has given all his models to me well i guess now ill have a lot of making to do.Comment

Well Char you are doing the right thing and keeping busy, you have quite collection there to look after and I know that you will, likewise I have my fathers own models, which remind me of the days when I would just sit watching him carving pieces of wood, and learning the tricks of the trade.
Those golden memories are always with you by having things he created with his own hands, now that is very special.Comment

Charlotte, whether you make them or not you will have things to treasure and remember your father by for the rest of your life and one day you may even be passing them on to your own children.
I don't use them but I have a lot of my fathers tools which I only have to look at to remind me of those precious hours spent holding the hammer and torch for him all those years ago.Comment

Lets' all have a laugh
Hello all, well another busy day doing stocktake prep. ready for the go ahead tomorrow. I'll probably not be posting anything tomorrow or Friday as I'll be organising the counting. Eight teams of two to cover 7,500 different items in 16,000 sq.ft of warehouse in about 14 hours total ! Not looking forward to it after getting all of the paperwork organised and when my boss said " it has all gone too smoothly, what big thing have we forgotten?" Now he has me worried. Good news though was facing the prospect of a stock loss of 25 sets of 14.4v Drill/drivers c/w tool bag and 75pc bit set, with a combined value of £1400 + vat, when one of my hguys came up and said to me " did you know about this crate? and where do you want me to put it?" If he wasn't so ugly.... Anyway enough of my mundane ramblings.
After reading Wonwings' entry I've got to recount a family legend (unfortunately it involves me as the guilty party) of a pair of binocs'. My wifes' aunt and uncle had been visiting and as we live on a cliff top auntie asked if we had a pair of bins. Of course came the reply and as they were usually on the window ledge in the kitchen you can guess at the state of the eyepieces. After a little humility I said that I'd get aroind to cleaning them shortly. Well shortly came and went and with a visit to said aunt I decided to knuckle down and clean them. Into the soapy water (were waterproof) and sparkling like new as they came out. unfortunately there was a little trace of moisture inside one of the optics. No matter they were OK, then I had the brainwave..after we'd cooked the dinner in the oven and it was cooling down I'd put them into the oven and let them dryout thoroughly. No problems after a half hour I checked them, still a little moisture, well I thought I'll leave them in for the rest of the night, quite forgetting that we were going away for the weekend.
On our return late on the Sunday evening it was suggested that we have a frozen pizza. Good idea said I, I'll put the oven on when we get home. Sure enough as we got in I whapped the oven onto full heat 220 deg C.... yes, you've guessed it... the bins were still languishing in the oven. After ten minutes or so I thought to myself What on earth is that rubbery smell?????
Oh well they were a good set of binoculars. :nono: straight into the bin with them in separate halves. It took a full week for the smell to disappear from the house.
:grinball2: there is nothing more theraputic than a bit of public humiliation :grinball2:
Cheers

Well will we be paying to breath and walk in the future ? with the news that councils, are considering charges related to the size of our cars parked outside our very own houses it makes you wonder how far we can be taxed, retaxed and charged again for, lets see if we take the dog for a walk will it be charged by the mile ? by the size of the dog ? or by the length of the dogs legs ? then they could easily tax us for having a bath,or perhaps the shower would be cheaper as we would then use less water which means that by washing the car at the weekend it would incur a surcharge, unless we do it cheap rate during the week during the hours of 8 am until 12 noon ?
My goodness there is so much scope for these extra charges,I think that an application to the local council for a position as 'Chief Taxer of Taxations' is in order, but wait a minute I see there is a stipulation on the application form,it says that if this is your 25th or over job application you will be taxed, and there will be no chance of reclaiming it if you get the job !
So just how far can the Government, local council go to extract more money from our pockets ? this week I had cause to request that the water board come and sort out some rather smelly sewers in the street, one phone call to some clandestine office somewhere North of Warwick finally got me speaking to a real live human being ( you must remember them, two legs, two arms and a brain ?) as I finally exhausted umpteen phone numbers finally arriving at the first one given to me anyway I requested the phone number of said water board, the reply came well we are not allowed to give numbers out really ? one self composed Wonwing demanded to speak to higher echelon ! well ok then but do not tell them where you got the number from will you ? fine, fine just give me the dam number so that I can make this request, after dialling it I was then forwarded to the 'Compost promotion board' whoever they are supposed to be ? but what has all this got to do with sewers ? undeterred I delved deeper into the realms of the secret service aka Severn Trent to locate the real office, the real men behind smelly sewers, the ones armed with the tools to tackle any dirty depth of manhole, and finally I got through to a young man on the end of the line who asked me if he could be of some assistance ? well yes you can really, you see we have a rather smelly street at the moment,ah ! he said probably a bunged up sewer ? thats right I said how did you guess ? well now can I ask you a few questions ? certainly anything to get something done about it,well Mr Wonwing how many flies have you seen ? well give or take a few dozen, perhaps over one hundred, deathly pause on the other end of telephone as he writes down 'Overrrr...onnne...hundred flies observed' and now on a scale of 1 to 5 how bad is the smell ? well actually 5 as it is very bad just now, right said the young man,we will get someone out to sort the problem,so I am given a number,a much sought after job number, they are actually coming out,I have finally penetrated the secret machinery of Severn Trent water board.
Two days later a knock on the door,Mr Wonwing is it sir ? thats right,we have come about the complaint about a smell in the street, well do please step this way showing them a drain, they then vanish down the street lifting anything that resembles a manhole cover ! sticking their head inside every one,it transpires that the one they need is in a neighbours garden, well it would have to be the one that is owned by the most miserable character in a ten mile radius, knocks on the door to no avail, gate firmly locked so off they go into the distance still non the wiser and we still have the wretched smell, today I rang them again to request that they ring/write to said person to request access,I got a load of rubbish about not being able to do that ? well I said if you do not do something about it then it will be a letter to the local rag, stony silenceand then he blabbers something about well I suppose we could send her a letter, yes you do that.
I will keep you posted as to events when and if they happen ? so this is what we pay those taxes for,to seek out secret organisations when we badly need them, they no longer advertise their secret phone numbers, work from undisclosed offices accessed from underground service areas, and vanish into the blue so we cannot see or hear them.Comment

loved that story Barry. although one thing i dont agree with....not always with a brain in my experience Barry!
By the way when I once had a sewer issue a few years ago the one thing that eventually received some attention was when I got hold of the local Environmental Health people. That rattled a few boxes and got a quick response.Comment

Folkar strange, a way of speaking
Folk are strange,, started as a typo yet how many say folkar?.
Went to our Sunday flying site today, too many cows with calves and also many sheep put in the field. A lot of the work I put in to getting the runway into good order has been mashed up by the cattle seemingly trying to turn it into mud after the heavy rain.
Anyway FOLK ARE STRANGE. We dont get too many good days, today was one and I had the flying to myself. My Flair Passion (a 3d type plane)which had been in two distinct parts flew very well, then on carrying it and the other gear to the car I popped a panel in the wing covering. Ah well, easy to fix.

In my last posting I said I'd be missing for a dew days !
Well folks, after a few days away from the forums. I'm glad to be back. Tired is not the word for it a couple of hectic days doing the stock taking and I'm glad that part is over!!! Now to look forward to the paper chase tomorrow as I suspect it'll not be a good result. Had a day off entirely yesterday, can't remember doing very much at all other than the mundane. Today was a little better. While checking my e-mails this morning and looking at my Skype contacts I saw an acquaintance from one of the forums was on-line in Australia so had a text chat with him for a half hour then took the kids out to a National Trust for Scotland castle on a witches hunt. They enjoyed it as my sister and her two were there too. After lunch I could put off no longer the prospect of cutting the grass hopefully the last of this season. Again a leisurely evening and lo and behold my pal from Aus was back on Skype again for another quick chat. Do these guys ever sleep?
cheers

Aloft on a feathered pair of wings.
Woke up this morning to a beautiful blue sky,as I reached for my binoculars to observe a small aircraft that was circling the castle another more natural sight caught my eye,in the distance were three large birds circling overhead, they were buzzards in a tight bank no doubt gaining lift from the terrain below, how graceful they looked as their wings twisted and glinted in the morning sun, these large birds are fairly common over here but usually in two's but this time a three ship formation.
There is so much to see and observe if only you go and look for it,those birds symbolised freedom to me,now would it not be a great thing to be able to fly just like them ? no engine,no noise just a very efficient wing from which to soar around for hours.
It is little wonder that the early aeronauts looked at birds and studied them, but the one thing that they got wrong was the flapping wing, man found it impossible to emulate this feature and was misled, the Wright brothers shaped the way the flying machine was to be for the future and made it a success.
I just love watching those large birds in flight.Comment
