had a driving lesson today which went well. instructor is booking test tomorrow then straight after had a job interview at a posh restuarant called The Lemon Tree, that went well and i am having a trial day next week. (aslo got an interview at the Stansted Hilton tomorrow which im a bit nervous about.

Tamiya finaly got their act togeather and toby shipped off some paints to me i have been waiting for for ages. Been working on the F-16 and prepping some bits on the Musashi....and realising what a head-ache Maskol gives you.

made lemon, garlic and corrianda chicken boudans rapped in streaky bakon for dinner and a vegetable musaka fro my sis (she a vegie) and thats about it. got to get up early for my paints being delivered and a..door for the garage lol

I like the way these blogs are going,it gives an interesting insight into our every day lives apart from our modelling activities,Nigel now this was a 'good' idea !! so take a pat on the back,in appreciation I am going to close this message and make the thread a sticky so please folks support this venture.

I see that October 17th was the national blog day and the information will be stored for posterity in the national archives,it will form a time capsule for generations to come to see the way we lived,so how about these blogs performing the same function for our own hobby interests here ? it would be lovely to think that future historians could look back and see the way we lived in the 21st Century as model builders.

Doing a blog is not at all difficult and we are not looking for perfection either,just put down what you did that day so we can all as a modelling family share each others interests,virtually anything goes and if you can throw in some humour as well then that is even better,we all need to smile and laugh,life can be just too serious sometimes,so come on now please support 'Nigels best' !

Hello all, after yesterdays post I'll be checking my spelling a little more thoroughly :grin: A somewhat quieter but no less busy day today, just more of the same old thing with the added excitement of getting ready for our annual Trade Show days in November. The photographers from the Press and Journal were in to take the interior photos for the advertising we shall run in a couple of weeks time, now the place is looking tidier. Knocked off slightly early well it is "poets" day isn't it? Had a chinese meal with a bottle of wine and put the feet up for the evening. Getting ready for the onslaught of my turn looking after the kids while Susan goes to work tomorrow. At least I had my bit of R&R in Edinburgh last Sunday sailing with my friends. A quick check of the e-mails and then off for an early night, it has been a busy week.

Monday, went to Elgin via Aviemore. Had some good "crack" with the guys at Cairgorm MFC, didnt enjoy heavy arrival with my Flair Passion. Had the engine cut at about ten feet and tried quick dive and flare-out, PANCAKE, broke its back. Fixable tho!

Tue, went to Dallachy modellers site, the locals didnt show so went to B&Q then back to friends static caravan and did some pre-winter work on it. Wednesday was pouring down so more caravan tasks then visit friends. Home Thursday.

Friday went up the "Glen" Nevis with fresh battery for the leccy fence. The patch is getting very wet, I enjoyed a flight with the Wot4 wind was very blustery so discretion kicked in on top of adrenalin. Fitted new security lights to garage then scivved.

Retired life is very hectic, init?

Had another fun day in the Workshop trying to get 11 year old kids to get to grips with some basic metalworking tasks.

One kid exclaimed "I'm scared of the centre punch!"

I placed the item safely on the bench, looked at it and then asked why it was so frightening.

I wanted to watch how they used it, thinking most likely that they would be holding it incorrectly and could hit their fingers or hand with a hammer.

The student then grabbed the centre punch and almost stabbed themselves inadvertently in the shoulder with the pointy end...

Very poor hand to eye co-ordination...a few minutes later...

"Ouch the file hit me!"

It's amazing how dangerous these inanimate objects can be!

Friday already ( where exactly did the week go to ?) did a round trip to encompass a few jobs as follows,one to collect a seat that my local friendly expert Cobbler did a great repair on for me,the seat is a special artists variety with plenty of pocket space to place materials on field trips etc,the top portion had pulled away,so it was either buy a new seat at £79 or pay for a £18 jobbie,it is good as new.

Next port of call was to visit the pound shop to get more parcel tape,had a look around to see what could be used for modelling purposes,some of those tools are amazing value for a quid,so they are no good for heavy duty but ideal for lightweight jobs,the clamps for example which you just cannot have enough of.

The intended park walk to get some exercise for good ladies muscles proved too muddy,so went to one of my favourite back lane spots at Coventry airport where there is a long stretch,armed with binoculars to look at the aircraft,I can also make sure she does not topple over,very uneasy on her legs walking alongside.

Then the heavens started to let loose so it was back to the car and back home for some tea.

Gearing up just now for my realtime radar system that I am installing on my computer,the kit should hopefully arrive by courier tomorrow,it will give me radar coverage for at least 200 miles with a simple mag mount,and also ordered the rooftop aerial for later unlimited range,really exciting stuff watching the airliners fly over my house as they appear on my screen on approach.

By the end of the year 2007 every aircraft in the UK will have to be fitted with a transponder,it had to happen with the amount of aerial activity across the UK,and I will be ready and established fully by then.

Not one of my better days

Well I suppose this is life so!!!

We had a phone call the other day to tell us Ingrid's Dad had been admitted to hostpital as he had banged his toe and it did not seem to heal infact the whole toe went black. At first it was thought that he had contracted gangrene and would need the thing amputated pronto !!! but then we couldnt understand all the tests that they were doing on him! Finally Ingrids's Mum was invited to the hostpital at 12.00 to discuss the Bone Marrow sample that they had taken from his hip!! Now I dont know if many of you are aware, but Ingrid suffered from Cancer 6 years ago Mercifully she responded well to treatment and is now classed as cured rather than in remission. So this bit of news sent her skyrocketing with worry and after several hours on the Intranet all the evidence pointed to leukemia. Frantic phone calls tp the hospital were rebuffed with " we will Know more after further tests and cannot possibly speculate at this time" Thanks guys!! Now Ingrid's mum has had 4 heart attacks and suffers from chronic angina, so you can imagine the goings on in our house Ingrid was now frantic about both Mum and Dad. 2.0clock came and still no news

Finally Ingrid got through to the ward and spoke to her Dad (who has remained in good humour throughout) Apparently he has

"A Blood Disorder called Thrombocythemia." Which though not Leukemia still requires chemotherapy to treat So at least we know (The funny bit is that we have been told " Not to worry about the toe! If it dies it will fall off painlessly") What do you do ? pick it up and just put it in the nearest bin or kick it under the table when no ones looking At least that provided us with a bit of cheer after the rest of the day !!! And Lara bless her little socks wanted to know if Grandad put it under his pillow would a toefairy come and leave him a pound (Kids eh!!!)

well i went for my interview at the hilton today. whent very well and the offered me a job as a Comis Chef and once i had finished my enrollement period i would be able to stay in any hilton in the world for £16 a night per person and 50% off the food....but then he mentioned for doing 39-40 hours a week it was only £11,500 pa. which if yuu ask me is a joke....not being big headed or anything but i have not trained to be a comis chef (aka, trainie) i have trained to be a chef de partie or a sous chef. but i have a trail day at The Lemon tree one day next week so we will see how that goes.

been doing the f-16 tonight. mostly "put together" but got a bit of filling before i can put a primer on it....then il find all the faults so have to do a lot more work lol.

We used to start junior engineers on that in Cunard line 15 years ago!!!

At the end of the day Richard interviews are always good experience. Good luck with the next one, hopefully they will have a more realistic package.
