I just installed a new addition to my hobby room to take care of this problem:

I’ve got an old sideboard-type of thing that, among lots of other stuff, I store my paints in. Unfortunately, though years ago the bottom drawer alone held all my paints, I’ve by now managed to fill both (each about 35 by 35 cm) two layers deep, and still had more than would fit. The solution I found yesterday was this second-hand toolbox:

(Note the bits of wood underneath, so that I won’t need to keep the space in front of the lower drawer clear :smiling3. It now holds the paints I don’t use all that much, sorted by brand (the second photo shows the Games Workshop drawer) so that my “main” paint drawers now look like this:

Oh yeah, and since I’m typing this in my hobby room anyway, I thought I’ll apply for membership in the cluttered workspace club while I’m at it:

Hi, my OCD wouldn't allow me to do this, great idea with the drawer, never thought of that.

Yup...a modellers 8" x 10" flat work space with clutter all round. :tears-of-joy:

Simple things are often the best. I have the same problem of having to keep the area in front of some little drawers clear.

I just know that if I didn’t put a riser under the set of drawers, I would quickly put stuff in front of it and prevent me getting at the bottom drawer.

And yes your bench is cluttered!!

There’s much more clutter to both sides, but that wouldn’t fit in the photo

They’re on the sideboard, but yes, it’s some 1/144 scale armour by Dragon and Trumpeter. IIRC it’s a Dragon M1A1 and Leopard 2A5, plus two Trumpeter LVTP-7/AAV-7 variants. The M1A1 is to go into the Trumpeter LCAC, but I never got round to finishing that either

Stacking paint two deep in one drawer, you mean?

great idea with the drawer, never thought of that.

I had been thinking lately that I needed a better way to store my paints, but hadn’t found one yet. I had thought of actual paint racks, like I see some people have in their hobby rooms, but because I buy all sorts of paint and the assortment varies over time, I can’t just buy one or two made for, say, Tamiya bottles and Humbrol tins because in a while I’d have space to spare in those as well as pots that won’t fit properly. Then it turned out my mother had been given this toolbox by a friend of hers, but didn’t need it, so I appropriated it

I was thinking of the Panther, JagdPanther, a couple Jagdpnzr IVs, Kuble, Ketten & a couple more on top of your middle drawer unit. PaulE

Oh, those are 1/72 kits from various manufacturers, including Hasegawa and Revell.

I've finally been able to move off the kitchen table and into a dedicated space at last.

With no kids at home and all their stuff moved out too, I have been able to claim a corner of the smallest bedroom as my own. The bench is made from part of an IKEA headboard with a 2x2 frame underneath which is attached to some battening on the wall with magnets so that it can be taken out if we have enough visitors (or grandkids!) to need an extra bed space. The lamp is clamped to the battening so it is also quick-release. It's a small space but I have plenty of light next to the window and after feeling a bit cooped up at first, I took the door off and replaced it with a sliding door instead - much nicer.





There is a wardrobe in the room where I keep most of my paints and supplies. I cleared a corner of my workshop at the bottom of the garden to make a spraying area. It's well insulated and I have a heater in there if the temp needs to come up a bit...



It's really made a difference not having to pack everything up every time.
