great info JR , amazing looking things arent they ( like Tim , still dont like the big ones !) The patterns are so intricate , we saw a big one on holiday last year in Ibiza and had to take a pic as it looked like it had a little love heart on its back . It had a web that was about 4 foot across between two trees !

Whatever you do, don’t put house spiders outside if you capture them. Put them somewhere in the loft or someplace else inside where they can make themselves useful killing the kinds of insects and things you don’t want in your house.Comment

Nuts to that. If he’s that big he’s looking to eat something bigger than flies….he either goes out or goes to spider heaven via a big damn brush…..they are alien I tells ya!!!Comment

Some can hunt really well….they ain’t called bird eating spiders for nothing…..they catch ‘em….then eat ‘em…..mostly frogs, toads and snakes, but birds if they can get them…..and the Goliath bird eater can have a five inch body and weigh up to six ounces. That’s about the same as a half mug of milk :anguished:Comment

Thought of you this morning Chris when I went to do my gardening job.
On a green garden waste bin was a nest of very young Orb Webs . Probably laid last year , you've most likely seen the yellow eggs sack in your travels placed in the oddest places
So small, normally if they are under a leaf one tap and they all shoot up into a tight group.
Now a really close up .
I wanted to keep large spiders such as a female red knee tarantula . Easily kept and not aggressive. Strangely enough Christine said No , can't under stand why It would live in a sealed enclosure. :disappointed:Comment
