The best way to remove waterslide decals without damaging the paint is with vinegar. You may have to saturate the decal a few times, but it will not affect the paint.Comment

Nothing else has worked so far,so I'll give that a go...... I'm guessing you mean White vinegar?!!Comment

Not tried this, so take it with a pinch of salt……strikes me that white vinegar will need a spot of washing up liquid added to it so you can reduce the surface tension of the liquid and allow it to properly wet out and penetrate the decal. Might need several applications as well. It you get any crinkling, scratch off the soft part of the decal with a chisel edged cocktail stick. The more “edges” the solution has to work with the better it will penetrate. I don’t know what Micro Sol is made from, but it smells of acetic acid (vinegar) so is probably quite similar.Comment

Weird isn’t it. Decals have water based adhesive sticking them on the backing paper, but that turns into a relative of araldite when you try to get them off the model again….just out of interest, what is the underlying paint Andy?

Yes,it is strange that these things are so stubborn to remove!
The paint underneath is Tamiya silver leaf,I had no luck at all with the Sol/set idea,so the white vinegar method will be my next sortie!Comment
