A bookstore that was voted the best in the country at one point, even. That doesn’t mean they’ve got a good (or even any real) assortment of books about military vehicles, but it pays to browse the historical section from time to time

As I’m used to building aircraft with lots going off in the cockpit the Sopwith Camel is definitely a little sparse on the inside so I’ve got a few bits to bling it up a bit. I’ve got a new instrument panel, new seat with cushions and some new machine guns.

I asked back then if anyone on the forum could print these if I bought the STL files. My luck was in as Neil Merryweather stepped up to the plate and offered to help. After much correspondence from me asking daft questions, Neil finally printed one of each type - after re-scaling them to 1/56 for me. Good man.

They arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm much impressed. Here's some of the parts for the Jorden version before cleaning up:

I've tried to show the level of detail - with limited success due to my poor camera skills:

Those pale lines on the piece in the middle are actually a cut out grille.

Here's one of the render pictures from the original files:

Sorry for the duplicate pic. Is anyone else having trouble uploading pictures? They're taking ages to copy and now it won't allow me to upload selected pictures.

Anyway. Colourful beasties ain't they. I seriously doubt whether I'll add all the bolt on bits as shown (These are from one of the 'Alien' films. I managed to watch the first bit of the original film - up until the point where the crew had just seen the alien kill one of them, at which point they decided to all split up and go hunting the thing single handed through the dim corridors of the ship!! Worse than the old B-movies where everyone wanders around the haunted castle on their own!) and since I ordered the less detailed prints, I have solid windows.

I may decide to cut these out and see if I can cobble together some interior stuff. We'll see.

Once again, my thanks to Neil for doing such a terrific job.

Hi Dave, those do look rather nice all painted up......I've been visualizing them in 1-87 scale with OD green paint and stars on them.....Hmmmmm.

Might be worth asking Neil if he could re-scale them for you? I'm in two minds whether to add some sort of military scheme or leave them as civilian vehicles.

As I am sure a wise man once said.....you can never have too many books, although my wife might disagree!

So whilst researching my Yak-3 and the air war on the Eastern Front - because I basically know nothing - I came across this for only £10 and from a proper book retailer not a certain online giant retailer....who was incidentally 30% more expensive.

It's not a big book but it will at least give me a high level overview....plus it has lots of pictures.....albeit it does apparently contain some questionable facts.....but you've got to start somewhere....and it is only £10.

No mate, I've got some modern PMC guys I can use, I'll try and scratch some bits together for either an Italeri Landie or Takom Mitsubishi or maybe even both?!
