In terms of the physio treatments, when my Mum was in hospital after a major stroke in her mid 40s, she had similar frustrations in that she could be doing much better (and be out much sooner), if she received more treatment. My Dad suggested to the staff that if they could show him the basics, he could do additional work with her during visiting hours. This started working so well that the nurses relaxed the official visiting hours for him so he could watch the proper physio sessions and then carry on with them himself. Is that something your partner or a family member might be willing/able to do? Of course the staff may not allow it, but it may be worth a try?
Did you enquire or make any progress with this suggestion?

Well I have had one of the worse days of my life.

It started last night when I could not eat anything in the evening since I developed a really bad mouth ulcer on my tongue.

This morning no better, medication to numb it was on order. My cornflakes, pot of milk and toast (my favourite meal of the day) left on my table awaiting the medication so I can eat it.

This ulcer is so bad i cannot swallow saliva without a lot of pain and if crumbs or whatever get under it, it’s agony.

        ETA medication lunchtime.

Lunchtime, oh it the wrong medication. When will they get me the right one, no idea.

But I missed out the best bit, a physio told me that I will not walk again and the best I can manage is to be an independent wheelchair user. Wonderful.

Well it’s 2pm, my cornflakes and toast have been taken away because the milk got spilt all over it.

2pm Still no medication and no idea when it might arrive but I do have 7 packets of biscuits to eat when I am able.

So a right now for the first time on my life I actually feel depressed. As well as very hungry with no idea of when I will eat.

Stay positive, and keep trying. Physio’s get prognoses wrong quite often. If you want it and work at it you can do it.

Hi all. Many thanks for all that you have said and all the support.

I ended up with a spray around 6pm that helped with the pain and enabled me to eat. I did enjoy all those biscuits Family arrived with lots of goodies as well….

Today feeling better and right now looking forward to corn flakes and toast!!

There are people to speak to and a lot of questions to ask today.

Hope you get the answers you need Barry. As to the ulcer, I can relate to that. I had a salivary stone removed from my soft palette a few years ago. Simple operation, done under local anaesthetic, over in about twenty minutes. The stitches burst due to the swelling it produced before we got home and I was on a liquid diet (basically soup and yoghurt) with regular antiseptic rinses for a week. Incredibly miserable existence for which I was told to “take paracetamol”. It would have been less painful to gargle with razor blades……..

                                Just a quick update.

Mouth still hurts but at least I can eat, though I am favouring food items like yoghurt, jelly and ice cream!

I was measured up for a wheelchair last week but have no idea when I will get one.

As far as I can see getting me ready to go home is the main thing currently. I do have some oncology treatments and appointments to come as well.

                                Basically I am bored stiff,
                                Bored being in bed
                                Bored with the food
Bored, just bored with the same routine every day.
