Ages ago, I picked up the AFV Club Sdkfz 251/20 Uhu (Owl). I was going to start it and, as usual, I searched for builds on the interweb only to find there was a vital part missing. A huge 8KW generator that sits behind the drivers seat and powers the big infrared spotlight.
Although it could be built without, it would be a bit of an 'Elephant in the room' or not, in this case..... After many looks at a scratch build option, it would be easy I suppose, I gave up and shelved the kit. On my return to modelling, I found a set that included the generator from Blast Models in France especially made for this kit and it arrived today. Very fast service from France.
I will do more detail pics when I match it up with the kit which is sealed up in the shed somewhere (I hope
). There is quite a bit more resin than I thought so it should make a nice build.

Not sure if this is in the right place but .....
I commented on Jim's (Grumpa) recent D8 Caterpillar build that I'd ordered a new kit of a piece of construction equipment. Well, here it is:
I don't want to open the bags so can't do a detailed review but there are some things I'd like to mention.
It's by Hasegawa so overall the detail and mould quality look really good - they've even included a driver figure - although if you look closely enough you can see odd little bits of flash here and there. The sprues are in four different colours which may help with painting.
The two black sprues shown separately are soft rubber and contain the tracks and hydraulic hoses. There is some flash here which could be difficult to remove as it's very soft rubber.
Decals look excellent.
The instructions are nicely detailed and clear and there's a nice set of full colour pictures for painting.
It's not a huge kit - only 211mm long and 77.5mm wide with 194 parts but it looks like everything that can move, does move.
It's an unusual beastie - the arms are a wonderful example of life imitating art! The grapple is the hand from a Star Wars Droid trooper and I've seen the cutter wielded by any number of Warhammer warrior figures!
I bought mine from Japan and paid about £26 including postage and for that price I'm well pleased. It's got to be worth a look for anyone interested in construction equipment kits or even just for the novelty value!
