Hi folks, got these today, dipping my toes back in to military modelling. ........tentively and hopefully successfully!
Got them from my local model shop in Paignton (sorry for not buying from John at SMS
).
Panzer IV was £14 and the figures were £6.
I've never built a German tank so this is a learning curve.o_O
And this too.....................

A word of caution! Early Academy kits are usually reboxes of even earlier Tamiya kits. Nothing necessarily wrong with that I know, but that Panzer IV leaves a lot to be desired.Originally posted by \Hi folks, got these today, dipping my toes back in to military modelling. ........tentively and hopefully successfully!

It's not an Ausf H or J, more like an For/2. Detail is lacking & obviously there's no zimmerit as you'd find on an H or J.
So enjoy it Dave, but if you ever build a Dragon P4, you'll see the difference!Comment

I've just been reading the reviews on scalemates, it's an oldie but goodie apparently, some say it's an old Hasegawa or Tamiya mould. Hope it builds well, I'll have a good go at it anyway!Originally posted by \I've always found Academy kits to be good.

You must have been writing your post as I was writing mine! ..............I just got them on a whim, we were in town mooching and popped in to my local shop, saw these and thought what the heck. Something to re cut my teeth on I guess.Originally posted by \A word of caution! Early Academy kits are usually reboxes of even earlier Tamiya kits. I'm looking forward to getting to build a Dragon tank, but only when I've attained somewhere near your experience and knowledge of the subject

if I was you, I'd build that one as an Afrika Corps vehicle. Most of the long-barrelled 75s were F1/2s & that way there's no zimmerit to think about.

You could do as that would be in late 1942 to early '43, so the fact that they're no in shorts wouldn't be a problem.Originally posted by \If I build it as Afrika corps can I still use the figures I got to go with it, I was going to do a small dio but based in the ETO
Whilst the Wehrmacht had pretty much dispensed with using anti tank rifles by then, who's to say that the Afrika Corps weren't prepared to use any weapons they could find, considering their lack of supplies?

Thanks Moni, I reckon it should be OK. The detail isn't as high as some of the more up to date mouldings on offer but the price was good and the detail for me is more than adequate, also not being negative but if I cock it up then I haven't lost too much money!Originally posted by \do real like the look of that panzer, should be a good build, from what I have found , Academy kits,

Youll be fine with the figures in Afrika style, have a look at some photos dave, some troops over there did have long-wear rather than tropic wear.
Plus, that tank will look great in dessie, nice sand base, sandbag bunker, youll do it proud bud!Comment
