I also agree that chit chat is part of this forum and is what helps to keep this the friendliest place I have ever been a part of and what gives us a warm and inviting atmosphere whereby members can feel free to say what they want. In this case some members, unknown to me have voiced concerns that sometimes the chit chat can get a bit out of hand, fair point. I don't think this was telling tales out of school, I don't think it was underhanded and I don't think it indicates any hidden agenda. I think it was simply raising a concern and asking the moderator in question to say something.I firmly believe that nothing is broken here, nothing needs to be changed and nothing of an underhanded nature is going on. I will, for one, not sit back and see this forum degenerate into the childish arguing that so often brings other forums down. I hope we can simply move on from this in the knowledge that things could have perhaps been done slightly more tactfully and with a bit more care and understanding and I think the moderating team have a few things to learn from this issue. I hope meanwhile everyone will continue to see this forum in the positive manner that I have enjoyed being a part of for many years and accept that while mistakes may have been made there has been no malicious intent.
Now this post I TOTALY agree with and hope we all can move on

I think this whole sorry episode is a crying shame.

I have no dog in the fight and I can see both sides of the issue. I think it has been made abundantly clear that Simon would be welcomed back if ever he chose to return. He certainly seemed like a decent fellow to me.

I don't see why issues over chit chat can't be sorted out without resorting to such drastic actions. This has been a friendly place for as long as I've been here and threads do get diverted from time to time, including my own. It's rather a function of the informality and friendliness of this place. It has never bothered me as it has usually been either an entertaining diversion or informative (or both) and any thread can be brought back on topic with one post.

There are plenty of more formal and more tightly regulated places where people can share their models and/or information. I am a member of a couple of specialist historical rather than model forums like that, but they are different places serving a different purpose. This is a modelling forum but also a place where people can enjoy a virtual chat.

It always takes two to tango, and I don't know the ins and outs of the various exchanges that took place, but I do feel sad that a forum member felt he had no choice but to walk away.

There you go, I've said my bit. I certainly don't intend to upset anyone on either side, it's just my view of a sorry situation.

      Cheers

      Steve

well, ive only got the dragon to talk to which in fairness is challenging. i joined the forum bacause it looked great fun and a way of making FRIENDS with fellow modellers. if you look at other modelling forums they appear dull and impersonal. i thought this one was different.....i stand correcting. a very glum robert. bah humbug

This is the best forum by miles......................The why's and wherefore's of this have, I hope, been aired and we can get back to modelling.....

However, I will just be approaching my contribution on here in a totally different, wary and safe way from now on.

            That's me done.....

Right i think we can safely say this thread has now come full circle. We can all take something from it in my opinion.

The admins could have and will do in the future, handle things better. More diologue between the parties involved should have taken place

Everyone is friendly on here and long may it continue. I still think this is the best modelling forum i am a member of

Everyone should use some common sence regarding what they write in threads. Some posters may not want their thread detracting from the OP topic, some don't mind it doing so. Just be more aware of who's thread you are posting on.

Simon (Eddie) is more than welcome to come back at any time. If indeed someone has his contact details out there, then please pass this on. We don't want anyone to feel they don't fit in or need to leave

I didn't see any of the posts that started this and I have no idea which members were upset about them, but the forum shouldn't change from what it is, I think the moral of this story is don't post in peoples build threads what you had for lunch or what your watching on tv, just stay focused on the build in question and leave the chat for the chat forum but don't post less for fear of upsetting someone.

I'm going to close this thread so it can slip away and we can move on.

As the sinner in this drama I would like to have my say and hopefully the last word. I am not going to close this thread as, as well all know, that is not the forums stile.

If John or one of the other mods sees fit to close it, so be it.

Several members, which will not be named as it serves no purpose, have talked over the PRIVATE message system to try and find out what could be done. I took the hot end of the stick and wrote to Eddy. OK maybe it should of just been as a PM and not as a warning. However, we have these tools so it seemed apt at the time to use them. It would seem I was wrong.

I informed Eddy nothing other than to hold back a bit with the PERSONAL CHAT within a Thread and we now all know how that turned out.

There was no stop it or you're out. No calling of names, or ill intent.

That is it in a nutshell.

Can we now please stop the flame fanning and get back to normal.

This has all got rather mixed up. There are two sides here.

                    So first Simon.

To squash any rumours I did not nor ever would refer a member to the moderators. I have had a little dig at Simon on the forum. I have in the past PMed if I have an issue with any member. That is the best way.

Simon is a nice bloke but has posted daft cras things. So we have all done that and regretted it.Some of us can go over the top. I am no exception and there are many others.

I have been in touch with Si and explained the above. He has replied with a very kind note. I know that it is his wish and mine that we keep on even keel and avoids silly bickering and taking sides as what would be the point of that. None. There has been some silly talk here and I can tell you Si does not want any of this. So please everyone let us in real Royal Navy terms pull together.

Some emotional and measured words spoken on this thread. It is all sorted now with both parties understanding the problems and issues and moving on.

This discussion thread is over, please do not add to it and keep it going, put it to bed and as John has said let it slip into depths of SMF.

                        Second bit. Forum problems.

I did ask the moderation team to consider the problems which are concerning many members.

The forum depends and is dedicated to model making that is the paramount reason for its existence and why it does so well as a leader in any forum model making or any other forum that I have seen.

Recently there have been times where we have had the first page littered with jokes and on the go. Look in and they are there. Every reply to these goes to the top off the leader board. You may say so what the problem is that and chat are dominating the forum. Tail wagging the dog.

Just yesterday by accident in looking for an article I came across on the third page an unanswered question on compressors from a member. So what must they have thought missed in this forest of jokes etc..

Visitors. What will they think visiting to find a lot of the first page jokes. Nice place they will think but I came here for model making.

Jokes and chat are fine but without model making this Forum will be dead.. Jokes are an off shoot not the main theme.

I have been here near four years so I know this forum I searched out as a beginner and arrived here. But in the last two months I have taken two intervals of two weeks away from this forum as I was sick and tired of what was going on. I even joined another forum but loyalty drove me back in hope.

So model making should be the priority that is not to say we sit on fun and daft remarks. So it seems to me we should have the model making main room. If members want to chat and joke they're should be a cosy room to visit. One that comes up on the main index page as The Chat Room which then leads to another index page showing chat and jokes separated from the Model Making Part.

This it seems to me will serve all purposes and keep all happy.

The main theme here is we are all Friends are we not ? We can argue the point kindly agree disagree but remain as is the British way friends.
