Heres the excellent Airfix bf109e-4 in 1/72 . I didn't bother with a build thread as its one ive done before , needless to say it builds up well with a bit of care , only additions were Eduard etched belts and an aerial wire .IMG_6554.webpIMG_6555.webpIMG_6556.webpIMG_6557.webpIMG_6558.webpIMG_6559.webpIMG_6560.webpIMG_6561.webpIMG_6562.webpIMG_6563.webp

An excellent result Tony. I looked up the pilot, and found it interesting to see photos of this aircraft force landed on a British farm and being displayed after. I wonder if the "crudely overpainted symbol" per Airfix's instructions was actually done by the British after the force landing, or more likely a modern day alteration.

I wondered about that too Joe , after looking into it I found out that the luftwaffe unit in question overpainted the swastikas on their aircraft for a while. Apparently their wing commander had married a Jewish girl and Goering wasnt happy so ordered the unit to remove their ace of spades emblems and paint a red stripe on the nose as a mark of shame . The red stripe was overpainted later and the swastikas erased as a protest against higher command . Interestingly although shot down in Kent , the photos of this aircraft being displayed in Britain were taken in Sheffield at barkers pool ( later the site of the Cole brothers ( John Lewis ) store , a company I worked at for 15 years . So a local and personal interest for me on this build .

Very interesting info Tony. It's great that there is a personal connection to your build. Cheers
