Morning all, I know not usually the done thing to mention other shops on here, but I use the above mentioned shop for MRP paints, which aren't stocked by SMS.

To the point. Has anyone heard anything about them closing down? I made an order a few weeks ago and have heard nothing since. Emails and phone calls have gone unanswered. I've not really got any other option than to pursue a refund through the bank, which I have to wait another couple of weeks to do. Have ordered a fair few times in the past with no problem.

Hi Jack

I ordered bottle holders from them months ago, nothing. Must have sent them over 15 emails, nothing. Got a refund from PayPal. Not sure if they have gone bust but they took my money.

Seems like a sudden closure then? All of their social media has closed down, but website obviously still active and taking orders. Not been able to find any information online to confirm this though, which is unusual these days.

Look on the companies house website.
If listed you might be able to find out if the company has ceased trading of not.
Yeah have done, it says active, but that only means they've not declared anything since last submitting paperwork.

I have used them quite a few times without an issue. However I ordered some files back in January. A month late nothing had arrived and I sent emails, got no reply, and phone number not recognised. I got a refund from PayPal.

I gave up on them a while ago. I only bought MRP paints from them but stock was always an issue.
I started using another supplier but then John started stocking the SMS Premium laquers, so gave up on MRP altogether.
I more or less switched to SMS paint too, but there was one particular shade of dark yellow that SMS don't do.

Yeah, Mr Color will always be my first choice but sometimes I have to shop around for a particular colour too.

Does SMS pong like other laquers? Will have a look at there naval colours?

Going to do a review shortly of the newish Kaleido paints

Inevitable with laquers really.

Although it's all relative. I find enamel & oil paints smell much worse, that's why I do limited weathering.

So many paints to choose from !

I can remember the good (?) old days of Humbrol and like it here in the UK, and Airfix paints in those little glass screw top bottles. Gloy tried to compete with Humbrol back in the late 70's by bringing out a large range of modelling enamels that forced Humbrol to up their game and do likewise. Unfortunately, model shops (remember there were many at that time) were reluctant to hold more than one brand, and Humbrol was already their mainstay paint already stocked. Gloy fell by the wayside, and predictably as soon as the new pretender was seen off, Humbrol started to reduce their ranges again at the time.

Occasionally back then one could get some Testors of Pactra Namel imported from the US. And just maybe some AMT aerosol lacquers for custom car models. Wow!

As far as paints go now for model making, in the words of a past UK prime minister Harold McMillan, 'You never had it so good !'
