discussion Revell Aqua, not impressed!

Bought my first pot of Revell Aqua yesterday and probably my last too.
Whoever thought of that design for the container needs a good kick up the backside.
Hard to remove lid that for all the world looks like it should be hinged at the back.
Not that easy, it needs levering and pulling off with the inevitable spillage occurring.
Then its hard to clean having a round pot/lid within a square box plus it doesn't wipe up very easily with plain water.

Not overly confident it will airbrush that well, going to need a lot of thinning to even stand a chance.
We shall see, at least the remainder has now been decanted into an empty dropper bottle.

Yep, have to agree, I have a few of these, bought early on when I got back into the hobby, the container design is rubbish.
I'll slowly use up the few I have, but I doubt I'll buy anymore either....

The pot is fine, you twist it to get the top off. I've airbrushed it a few times; you're right, it does need a lot of thinning but it thins well with just water.

Use a knife to cut through the label first.....its those little clippy things that twist that make it a pain.. The lid is designed to clip to the boxy bit to make a sort of little pallette.

I used to airbrush aqua all the time til I discovered Vallejo Air...... Still like to brush paint it cos they have some perfect colours...... Tar black gets used a lot cos it's a rubbery black colour great for things on armour

One tip I learnt somewhere was if you want to thin with water for airbrushing the easiest way to get the ratio right is to take a fresh tub and top up with water and mix really well..., used to work for me

I did cut the paper with a knife, still not impressed with the design though.
My usual paint is Vallejo Model Air which I thin with a mix of flow improver, thinner and retarder.
Covers well enough and can spray for ages without any tip drying.
Only bought the Aqua because it was a good match for a colour I want for a vehicle

I have used it for brush painting and found it to be fine in use.
The body containers take a bit of getting used to.
Hobbycraft locally has run their Aquacolour stock out having been running it down for a while now.
Not sure if those paints have been discontinued or not, but my local Hobbycraft in Biggleswade has gone over exclusively to Humbrol products. No Tamiya or any other hobby paints to be seen either!
