I was wondering why "bowchasers" are left to roll around the foc'sle(forecastle).

Does your model have boomkins? (sometimes bumkins) these are small booms that stand out from the prow on each side and provide an anchor point for the tacks. These are normally stiffened with what are called boomkin shrouds which hold the things rigid. The boomkins, at the scale of your model would only be about 4 inches long.

This superb build has left my mind truly boggles. It's just so perfect and intricate but I must admit to being totally befuddled by the terminology being bandied about.
Yep it is certainly a steep learning curve
