Its too flipping Hot!

I'm heading to Cyprus in about 7 weeks time. Currently hitting 30 odds and expected to rise into the low forties.

They are putting out messages / warnings already ..... stay in the shade, keep hydrated, stay indoors in the mid afternoon heat, if you are going out ..... early morning is best.

Not an issue for me .... stay at the villa most of the time until i'm ready to go out for an evening meal ..... stay in the shade of either the villa, pub or shops ..... have a few beers, coffee's and flush through well with gazillions of cold water.

It usually works ..... a bit uncomfortable but bearable. ..... and .... more importantly ...... no where even close to a work environment.

Cheers

Toto

Spent most of the day at Tynemouth, very pleasant temps with a cooling breeze coming in off the North Sea. Off up to Alnmouth and Alnwick tomorrow, Met Office reckon a high of 24C

The aircon unit we got is good, from Machine Mart, I think its a Clarkes one, portable, but heavy, and has a ducted vent that has to go out a window. If you stand outside when its on it remarkable how much heat it throws out the vent!
We put it in the dining room pointed towards the living room, with the double doors open, so it chucks cool air into the living room, but it noisy! Hence why we have it another room. I could not have it in the bedroom as its too loud and would keep me awake.

Is your aircon powered by solar panels ?
Because apparently they are not to good for the environment. They use a lot of energy.

No its not solar, its 240 mains, it just a portable unit, not fully built in AC.
Personally, in the great scheme of things, I don't think my keeping two rooms cool, for those few days in the year when its very hot, will harm the planet too much.

Ended up doing the Toon Tour, hop on/off bus trip.
Sat on the open top deck, bit warm, but still a decent breeze here.
Got off and had lunch at a pub in Ouseburn then in the afternoon wandered on the quayside.
Back at the hotel now, set the air con for 18C then went and had a beer whilst the room cooled down.
Hope there aren't too many heatwaves otherwise we will be skint.

The trick in keeping the house cool during the day is open up all the windows during the night to vent the place with cooler air. Early morning before it starts to get hot outside, close the windows and draw all the curtains to retain the cool air as much as possible for as long as possible inside.
I know it seems counter intuitive to say close the windows and curtains during the day, but it does work to a certain extent and also keep the external doors closed as much as possible too by going in and out as little as possible.

Was hot at work all day. Only respite was on the Train home 🥵
