Scale Model Shop

May go dark for a little while

Last post on this because I was passed fully fit on Monday. That means seven weeks after my hip replacement surgery I am classed as completely healed and able to go back to normal life, carrying moderate weights and moving the hip joint in any way that is natural. First practice with the band today as well, and I had more energy than I’ve had for as long as I can remember. I even played a couple of songs standing up (I usually sit) for the first time since I joined them just after Covid four years ago. For me this improvement seems nothing short of remarkable. Anyone that needs a hip replacement and who is putting it off, just do it. You won’t regret it.
Glad you are improving Tim.My wife has had multiple replacements and last year it was knee done and 4 years ago hip and pelvis rebuild.A friend from our model club had his hip done and he has no family so i did his shopping and my wife gave him mobility aids.Peter is so much better now and my wife needs an elbow done as she has aggresive Rheumatoid arthritis.
All the best fella.

Cheers Richard. I too have moderate to severe RA, it’s a horrible condition, so she has my sympathy. In my case I think the hip was congenital as my mother had her right hip done at about the same age.

As to the RA, following a complete failure of treatment with adalimumab I have been put on Retuximab infusions every nine months and they have transformed the condition. I’m basically in remission now as a result. I still get flares as I come up to infusion time, but nothing like I had before. I’ve even been able to drop my weekly methotrexate, dose down as a result and am completely off painkillers. If your wife is just on methotrexate, or methotrexate and sulphasalizine, it might be worth a conversation with the rheumatologist. There are a lot of new biologics on the books now and it could be worth investigating what else can be done. It’s a better option than continually having to get steroid injections or tablets.
