It's my 60th in a few months. My wife says I deserve something special, and I'm pretty sure something fab in 1/24 scale fits that brief for me - but I'm pretty sure that is not what she had in mind. Apparently I'm terrible to buy for, and I have a feeling many of you are kindred spirits, because nobody ever believes that more models or stuff is just fine.

Absolutely Neil , we’re supposed to be hard to buy for but if someone got me a kit for christmas or birthday , no matter how small or cheap I’d be well happy . Instead we get stuff that were not bothered about ( socks , foul smelling gift sets , a rubbish bottle of wine etc )

I was surprised to find a model shop while on holiday.
It had a reasonable selection of kits but not too much in 1/48, but I did find this

I have a bold and cunning plan to scratchbuild something.... Had it in my head for years so I've been collecting all the bits and bobs

Packs of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm rod, square section and angle extrusion....... Cheap Chinese stuff that's a quarter of the price of evergreen or plastistruct stuff....... The white square stuff is from hobby craft and I can only describe it as a flexible plastic mesh that's meant for tapestry and needle point..... And yes I will probably need a pack of playing cards

I know, I know. I said I wasn't going to get anything else, but it was cheap (mainly because it's missing the Ye-152, but not that that's a problem!)

Also, the I-144 'conversion' (which includes the whole wings and fuselage as one piece, plus the fin - so all it requires from a kit is the undercarriage!) and a couple of seats, all from the nice Mr Jadoul of Retrokit in Belgium. He's also sending me a whole load of spares and stuff free

Next battle are railings, especially the upper deck ones, which run the length of the hull. Some say fit then paint others paint first.

So experimenting with priming, top coat and maybe varnish before fitting but removed from the fret. then using these to handle and hopefully not scratch or chip off paint. £7 from amazon. Silicone tipped.

One can hope Tim. As I use laquer and as we know they don't brush well. I don’t fancy trying to brush laquer paint on the railings in place. So hopefully they won't get chipped using these silicone tweezers, thats the plan!

Gaahleri are bringing out a new range of paint Omni, according to the bumpf, spray like laquers and brush easy but no smell. Sounds too good to me lol.
