Back when I was around 15 or 16yrs old I built this 1/72 Monogram B-25 Mitchell. It hung in my room at my Mom and Dad’s house till I moved out when I was 19yrs old then it hung in my apartment till I was 29yrs old when I got married it then moved to the garage and stayed on a shelf for many years till last year I decided to rebuild it. It had lost some parts over the years. I just couldn’t toss it out it has so many memories. The only B-25 I had in my stash was this old Airfix. One night I played around with swapping parts to re- build the old Monogram and I think it might work.View attachment 345035View attachment 345036

Paul. Mr. Race says that Yorkshire tea is the best. I may have to pay him a huge shipping fee to get him to send me some. Hope you stick around this is going to be a fun build

Here’s a update got some primer on and I also took the Airfix Engines and added them. The Monograms were very shallow and a different type.I had to do some cutting to adapt the Airfix Engines. The landing gear was missing also so I used the Airfix Going to let this set up and dry

Lee , those engines look to have some nice and sharp mouldings, a great choice to improve the old girl.

John. Thanks I’m going to add Bomb Bay door also and the Cockpit from the Airfix is a lot better also. Texas Tea is Curde oil it’s a Texas State thing forgot what Long Island tea is Long Island is in New York City

Long Island Tea is a mix cocktail of alcohol that ladies seem to like.

Pure nostalgia Lee,I love the idea especially as that old kit was a part of plastic modelling history,done similar things myself and my treasured old Revell B-36 Bomber built around 1958 is still in my collection,back then we never had proper model paints really and my model was painted with Woolworhs best white enamel,the first kits to come into the UK via Gamages etc were American Hawk,Lindbergh,Revelle,Monogram and Kleeware,then we had Lincoln International,Eaglewall 1/96th scale kits and those wonderful early Airfix Spitfire's and Gladiators with flat no airfoil wiings sold in F.W.Woolworths stores for 2/- thats two old shillings for the youngsters here ! the Airfix Lancaster was 7/6 pence seven and six old pence a lot of pocket money to save up so birthdays were the answer for the Silver City Bristol Superfreighter,loved them all.

Nice to see nostalgia as Barry says....this thread has it in more than one aspect....we have Airfix kits and hanging them from the ceiling, and the phrase “Texas Tea” which I remember from the theme tune to the Beverly hillbillies....

Back in the sixties kits were everywhere except model shops,you could find them in newsagent's,fancy goods stores,sweet shops,Marks and Spencer,hardware stores,then Woolwoths imported Kleeware big time and Aurora too,there was no mail order to speak off back then and the American magazines that reached the UK were full of mouth watering advertisements.
There was no plastic cement either and we had to use Ethyl Methyl Keytone to assemble them.
