for years I have been flushing my airbrush with big standard Halfords Blue Screen Wash without a problem.

Last Monday I popped in for another bottle only to find that other than ready to use, I use concentrate straight from the bottle, there was no standard blue. The only concentrate in store was in either, cherry, berry or citrus scented. A bit annoyed, I got the citrus.

Today, I sprayed primer on some parts of the Triumph 3HW and, as usual, the Stynylrez went on perfectly. I cracked open the new screen was and cleaned my airbrush with a final run through of Mig thinners ready for the Mig paint. I sprayed the Mig colour over the primer and it immediately started to give an effect of being sprayed over a greasy surface.

I will let this dry and see what happens on re spraying but I suspect that a citrus oil is used to scent the screen wash which affected the paint. It wasn't the plastic as the primer worked fine. I shal do a full strip of the airbrush and clean it in Cellulose thinners before re using.

I cannot say for certain that the screen wash is the cause but that was the only difference. Anyone else used it?

John as you stated its the citrus oil that caused the problem I had a similar problem a while ago ended up having to strip the paint off now I use a 30%Mister muscle glass cleaner 70% water solution to clean my spray brush and brushes

Cheers for that Colin. I do like my screen was so I will be hitting the supermarket and try and get a big bottle of Blue concentrate without smells....... why can't they just leave things alone.:D

John
Have you tried pound land or pound world I have seen it in one of them not sure if its concentrated though. I have to go shopping tomorrow I'll let you know

I've always used the same stuff as an airbrush cleaner & Morrisons had a concentrated blue screenwash on sale just before Christmas - £3 for 5 liters. Might be worth checking if there's one local to you Graham.

Yep, I will be going at the weekend or my better half will be. I think my last small bottle was from Aldi but I really liked the Halfords blue, it was the best. Having said that, they are probably all the same lol.

Graham ,I use a bike cleaner from poundland for the initial clean of the brush , and a final clean with vallejo airbrush thinner and a last quick spray through with distilled water. The poundland bike cleaner is called - no more dirty bike, and its a lurid pink colour but its not highly scented and does a good job of initial cleaning and saves the more expensive thinners for the final clean, heres a pic

Cheers, I will try that. I did use Muck Off, the proper stuff, once but it was too expensive. . Thanks for the tip:)

Mmmmm, thing is, if it is a citrus oil, do you want it on your windscreen?

why not? the citrus bit is a degreasant, works by making any grease/grime break down, thats how it gets the windscreen clean

im trying to remember the technical term for how it works, its the reason you have the paint doing what it has done, something to do with breaking down surface teension

dont forget this is a product designed for cleaning windscreens, not airbrushes lol

i used to use window cleaner then realised the ammonia in it was attacking the chrome plating on the airbrush!

Paul
use Mr muscle multi surface glass cleaner it is safe to use on chrome surfaces

I use the screen wash from pound land with no adverse effects (Iwata airbrush and Vallejo paints) :) cheap n cheerfull

Unless I've missed something, I use IPA (Isopropylalcohol) and/or Vallejo Airbrush cleaner to celan my airbrush. No problems.

This might be of interest, I have been using international scale modelers airbrush cleaner, dear but works great and is fantastic for cleaning brushes too.
I bought some cheap (carplan I think it was) screenwash for a motor in currently have on hire and it smelt exactly the same and looked very similar if only a little more concentrated in colour than the ISM cleaner. May be watering down with some de ionised water and trying out.
I take it these products won't damage a decent airbrush like my iwata hp-ch or h&s infinity?

I've not had any problems using screenwash with my Infinity CR Plus - ir doesn't attack the chrome.

You are not the first to say that about ISM airbrush cleaner. I couldn't comment..... Anyway, yes, screen was is a cheap bulk cleaner for airbrushed and hairy brushes if using Acrylic paint. As many above, I use it for the initial clean up then, when finished I generally flush through with a small amount of the thinner for whatever paint I am using next. It as works added to an ultrasonic cleaner, just a few drops.

I don't say you shouldn't use the expensive stuff but this method makes it much cheaper.
