Thanks to Ron, I got his Revell U-99 model and did what I always tend to do with these kits...yep, make it a wreck.

I find this kind of modelling relaxing as it is so easy to do and mistakes or blemishes are hidden away.

The boat was cleaned and then some slight damage added to hull (depressions) and railings, a PVA coat added and then a fine sand, once dry red oxide coat added. I did some pre-shading in black satin on the underneath and lower hull and then I built up greys and greens using the airbrush, sponge dabbing of a light coral colour added to top surfaces and then some rust built up. Finally a brass and aluminium base added.

I know...all that careful wrapping and I was just like a kid on Christmas morning By lunchtime it was wrecked.

Bless you mate, I wasn't too sure on the pre-shading making it too dark but it all seemed to come together in the end.

Thanks Mick, this is the third sub of this type that I have done sunken, all three have had similar treatments but experimented in different paints to achieve effects.

Thanks Steve, setting in resin would be just too much work for me to do, especially nowadays as I have arthritis, FM and COPD, that is one reason I do wrecks, to me they are no brainers-just do what you want and they do not have to look perfect.

I've found a 20yr. old article about U99. She was actually found S.W. of Iceland, by an exploration team searching for another vessel. She was identified by the lucky horseshoe which was still visible on her conning tower.
Here is a picture taken from a manned submersible of the rather old fashioned (By modern standards) R.O.V. exploring the well preserved wreck.
