Hi chaps.

I suspect everyone swears by their own favourite chip shop and how to cook them etc. My wife has early memories of going to the chip shop with her grandfather, an ex miner, in Ferryhill Co. Durham. He just went up to the counter and said ''Twice.'' Last fish and chips I had wrapped in actual newspaper was in Hull, c.1985.

Beef dripping blocks best for Fish.n chips. As i live in Clacton on Essex coast there are a fair few Chippies around.Never tried Rock n chips or Skate tho.Do any of you get the bits that falls off batter?,I like a nice bit of Scampi.Been to Whitby once and had Scampi.Very very busy in Summer and there was a steam bus charging around and bloody piddled down with rain so didnt go to The Dracula abbey.
We certainly cover some random subjects my friends!!!.
How many are having Boxing day buffet?.
Enjoy gang.
Rich and Helen.

Normal is just an intellectual construct:smiling2:. Be as you'd wish to be. Happy new year, PaulE

Great chip chat, well done......
Just out of interest, and to extend the knowledge a little, my Gran came from Hastings, and always had Rock Huss and chips when we went back visiting. She never asked for “Rock and chips” though, to her it was always “Robin’ us” . Probably a local Hastings thing....
Cheers
Tim

Lee - Thanks for putting the thread back on track!

To the rest of you, chips are GOD'S OWN FOOD and a little banter at Christmas, however mad, drives away the winter blues.

Jim - I had rock once, not realising that it is actually dogfish (hence the poor man's cod). Quite strong tasting as I remember. Not a great fish fan, so it's usually pie time for me.

Oh good grief, where is my thread? I know chips are a a fascinating subject, but really........

Seriously I don't mind, but I don't want to annoy anyone either. Hopefully, when the Big Joe bust arrives, we can get back on track.

Hi Peter
You do attract some interesting stuff on your threads. When Telly arrives there will probably be 4 pages of posts on bald heads and cigars!!
Jim

We call it "Fish Fry" here. Perch, Walleye, whatever you can drag out of the Great Lakes dipped in beer batter & fried w/French fries & cole slaw. PaulE

That's the way to do it Paul. French fires are nothing like British chips though, which are thicker and soggier.

So the good news is that Telly Savalas / Big Joe has arrived:

The bad news is that it's a lousy casting, damn it. Hopefully it will clean up OK.

Lovely painted Peter...man do I have some catching up to do.

Cheers,
Richard
