I know from the short time I’ve been on the forum how many of us look at non modelling related items and see if they can be used in our hobby. The other day I was searching for holographic paper and came across this stuff used by nail technicians.

It’s an almost transparent film used to wrap nails, I was wondering if I could use it for putting on optics on vehicles etc, so that will be the experiment.

good idea Mick,
I remember someone using the film from inside a compact disc on a build once....give it a go I reckon.

If it works Si I have a lifetime supply, I got three long strips for less than £5. First thing is to find how best to attach it, maybe varnish or pva

Hi Mick
Always interested in off the wall ideas. Varnish sounds as if it may work but ..... experiment and let us know.
Jim

Yes does sound good , if there is one like oil on water that would be great.
Off to have a look . Thanks Mick:thumb2::thumb2::thumb2:
John .

Wow, cool beans Mick! I hope it works. I have never heard of such a thing for nails….

Allen,

You really should get out more!!!! :smiling5::smiling5::smiling5:

Perhaps Mr Race or Rick could get you a sampler pamper session in their local salon????
:flushed::flushed::smiling3::smiling3:

but seriously Mick, I too would be interested to see the results,

Paul.
:smiling2:

Damn Paul, you could very well be right about that!!! Sucks when you're old and uninformed………………………….

Very interesting Mick. Looking forward to results.

Cheers,
Richard

Wow gents thanks for the interest. Experiment one was using varnish to attach it to clear plastic and it sits down very fast. I used some not entirely perfect bits for this round. I was amazed at the pinky coloured one as you will see that in light it changes to a green colour a bit like the coating on glasses for vdu users.

Here they are stuck down, the piece on my desk is the holographic one with sunlight on it.

You can see what I mean here, the top one is the pinky coloured stuff with the silver holographic below it. Round two will be pva, thanks for looking in.

Mick,

interesting result there, the holographic paper looks good. :thumb2::thumb2:

Found these on evilBay - self adhesive - is it the same/similar product??

Hi Paul, these aren’t stickers, they are just a coloured film

Mick I was looking for some oil on water, a sort of rainbow effect. Had a look at some mad lady in the US and she had some , but the foil didn't look right.
Still think that for the use you had in mind for optics it will be great.
John.

Excuse me Mick

Paul following my last visit I have been banned, as I told the owner it wasn't my fault the thinners caught fire. !:flushed::smiling:

Yep I saw that in your first post - then I searched eBay and found these - it seems to be similar in colour etc but claims to be self adhesive.

For the sake of 99p - I've ordered some - 5 sheets each 5cm x 20cm. Delivery sometime between 5th February and 6th March.

Now !! how are you going to keep the thread open that long??
Do you enlist the not so hidden talent of Mr Race to conduct a full H&S compliance test and flammability test??????:smiling2::smiling2::smiling2::smiling2:

Paul.
