Scale Model Shop

Sausage-fingered optimist reporting for duty.

Welcome Andrew and Conkers,
Yes those were the days with airfix glue, and I am sure many of us started off from that point, and some of us still have those moments even today unintentional as they are....
You will find modellers of all types and subjects, and advice is here by the bucket full, all you have to do is ask, it may sound a bit stupid to you but those of us under the analyst get help with answering.
Again welcome,
Mike.

Hi andrew welcome to the forum , loving the sunseeker yacht , ive got that in the stash , its a lovely looking model. Feel free to ask anything youre not sure about and as Al says the search function is a mine of info , much better than most of those modelling videos on you tube! Cheers tony

Thank you. I have subtly avoided showing the appalling hull finish! My black gloss was very sludgy, before I thought to thin it.

If it's any help, have plenty of masking tape ready for the deck painting!

And a big welcome from Germany Andrew. The guys have said it all and did you take the pictures of the Locomotive with an iPad? They look like some of mine.

Jump in, the water's fine, but a bit chilly this time of year……..

Prost
Allen

Danke vielmals!

Taken on my Nikon D40 I think, my phone didn't have depth of field at that time. I need to set something up to give a better background and lighting for the photos, if they're worth building they're worth presenting properly!

HI an its a welcome from me the ole boater as the guys have said love your models an your doggie Conkers an this is a great forum to be on very friendly an helpful guys on here I have enjoyed my time on here a great bunch to join

Welcome aboard. Love the work you've done so far and as a fairly recent convert to airbrushes I can say I don't regret the move. If you want to know more then send me a PM.

And above all congratulations on an outstanding name!!!!

dont let airbrushing scare you, just jump in and have a go, only way you will learn

I will look into airbrushing. Got a fairly whopping boat as my next intended project, and hand brushing for 3 coats it is filling me with dread.

Our daughter has decided Doggy doesn't think she's a princess enough, so just tarted her up.

Ahoy there!

Until my Grand Plan is undertaken (retiring, converting the garage and building one mother of a train set from scratch), I think 90% of my models will be boats! We are a naval family and I've always had an interest. I have a cupboard full of kits picked up over the past few years. I'm not especially military-orientated (I live in Yorkshire so green and grey are already the canvass of my life), so prefer pre-metal and colourful.

The one I refer to is the Revell Cutty Sark (the one below). I'm sure some of you will have attacked it, and I want to see how I have developed. I'm sure I will need some help but this seems to require a lot of different skills (organisational and technical) and I'm ready to stretch myself.

If anyone has built this and has some generic tips for it before I start, I'm all ears.

HI again Andrew I think there are two already bein built on here in ships under contruction section where my tiger build is an its I think ken but in real wood like my build an Ian in a kit so you may get some tips off them for your ship

Welcome, you'll like being here, plenty advice and knowledge all you need to do is ask, no questions are stupid or a waste of time.

Welcome Andrew.
Love the introduction. It's great forum of like minded people, lots of banter and help given .
Look fwd to seeing you around.

Go to ships under construction section and somewhere in there is my thread as I have done one twice.

I was just reading it Peter! The shelf disaster must have been soul-destroying, so impressed you managed to start again.

I note with trepidation your comments on the rigging. At present, my intention is to go for it all, but will not get into a fight with it.

One thing I will not be doing is using those horrific plastic sails - they're already creased in the box! I will consider using them as a mould for some cloth instead - to be decided.

I will definitely reference some of your post as I go. And I already have a question - how did you achieve the weathering look on the deck hatches please? I have no clue about weathering, I've always just built 'as is'.
