Hello all. Due to the C19 lockdown I have decided to resurrect my love of model planes.

Hi. My name is John from Portsmouth. I have always wanted to get back into modelling since making them as a teenager in the 80s. The lockdown has now given me lots of spare time but it has been really difficult sourcing the kit and paint etc.
Anyway I managed to find an Airfix Avro Vulcan 1/72 and I’ve started the build. I’ve watched some YouTube videos to get some tips and the model is a challenge to say the least!
I’ve got some paint arriving in the post today so I can start getting the cockpit and crew painted. Actually really excited!
Any tips welcome! Glad to be a member of the group.

If you have Amazon Prime access there is a really good programme - search for raf bombers - it has some footage of the Vulcan barrel-rolling over the Farnborough air show!

I do have Amazon Prime so I'll check it out. I've seen the Vulcan at a show once and it makes a hell of a noise.

welcome to the forum! The Vulcan is an ambitious first model after a long lay off.............. Are you brushing, or spraying?
I used to go to shows at RAF Finningley ( Now Robin Hood Airport ) in the 60s, the highlight being the Vulcan 'scramble' - 3 Vulcans lined up at the end of the runway - all at full power, then taking off, about 100yds apart - the earth actually shook, dogs started howling, babies crying the air crackled! As a youngster it was rather overwhelming!

I’m going old school with enamels and brushes. Something nostalgic about doing it that way that will remind me of my younger years.
The Vulcan scramble sounds awesome!

I remember being taken to the RAF St Athan open day in the fifties, where a Vulcan flew over the crowd at about 500 feet, blotting out the sunshine. When over the runway, he pulled it into a vertical full power climb, and as Dave said the ground shook, dogs, babies (and I) cried, photographers fell off their stepladders, etc. Awesome!

I think I first went to Finningley in 1964, then every year until 1973 ( the final time was the Jubilee Air Display in 1977). At that time, the regulations were a little less stringent, and the spectators were pretty close to the runway! Some of the displays were very low, and flew across the crowd line, not like now, where they are along the crowd line. Of course at that time, all the RAF planes ( and FAA ) were on display, most of which have now gone - Beverley, Argosy, Shackleton, Lightning........................
I first saw the Red Arrows there, in their tiny Gnats - one plane that sticks in my mind was the RAAF F-111 ( can't remember why ) oddly enough, I can recollect it being cloudy, but never raining!

I had chronic ear infections when I was small, and loud noises were painful, so a Vulcan on full reheat...

John Welcome to the forum,
Plenty of great advice on here plus some you do not need.
Just enjoy your first build for a long time, do it the way you want to do it, and then start to look at the modelling videos and decide what you want to try. It is all about what you get from the hobby.
