My loose change caught my eye, in the ashtray in my bedroom - untouched for a long time, and I got to thinking, when was the last time I actually paid for anything with cash?
After a ponder, I worked out it was Thursday March 19th, buying a pint of bitter in my local hostelry! Getting on for two months!
Anybody else remember the last time they paid for anything with coins, or the folding stuff?
Dave

Apparently, paying by card has even penetrated into Germany thanks to the Covid-19!

I bought a couple of pints of milk and some bread with cash when I flew back to the UK from Italy at the end of February.

Since then, I remember giving the Fuhrerin 20 quid because she owed it to daughter number 1. That cleaned me out of everything but a few coins none of which I have used since.

Apart from my turn at the supermarket, paid by card, all my recent purchases have been online, so obviously no cash involved.

To be fair I don't use cash very often in normal times, but I don't use it at all now.

Cheers

Last time I paid cash for anything was halftime at the football on the 10th of March (steak pie and a coffee for me and two sausage rolls and two hot chocolates for my kids).

I think it was when I bought some postage stamps back at the end of January. I've got the same 55 quid in the wallet untouched since ...

About 1 hour ago. Fruit box from our friendly fruit and veg merchant. He was wholesale before the lock down but partly to offset his lost trade and partly because he's a really nice guy he has started selling veg, fruit, salad boxes from his warehouse on the industrial estate. Before that it was the window cleaner last Thursday.

Not for at least two months, unless basing my gaming figures on 1p and 2p coins counts? To be fair I hardly used cash before really....I used to go to the cashpoint every Saturday, but hardly remember the pin number these days. I haven’t used one for at least five months.

I honestly can not remember the last time I used cash but gave the grandson my last lot of loose change back in March. Since then everything has been on cards.

Same as you Dave, the odd coinage goes into the old ashtray untill SWMBO raids it, but the last time was back in March at the post office.

Just before I left work as working in a shop it's unavoidable although we're are mainly using self service checkouts witch does limit it some what.

We did pay a window cleaner cash, but we haven't seen him for months (not since I got back from Italy). He'll be okay, he's a fit young man, hopefully he'll be round soon or guess who will be receiving orders to clean the windows.

Other than that I am instructed to tip the underpaid assistant who washes my hair at the hairdresser, so I do use cash for that. This may become a thing of the past. Yesterday Amazon delivered some clippers and I now have a 12mm lockdown hair cut, courtesy of the Fuhrerin. She didn't ask for payment, I had no cash anyway, but the result is more than acceptable. I don't look as if I just escaped from some institution! I'm starting to wonder why I pay someone as much as the clippers cost to do it in normal times :smiling3:

A twenty last week to the detail guy at work for blending in some touchup on the rear bumper cover due to a misjudgement by SWMBO. PaulE

Couple of days ago for postage on an ebay sale.

This took some serious thought, I use very little cash normally anyway, most of the time it is credit or debit card. But after some thought it was back in mid january for a taxi from Rome airport to my hotel on a business trip, the taxi was only because it was late at night, normally I take the train. And only cash because he wouldn’t take a credit card.

Pretty much the only cash I use goes into the vending machine at work, and that hasn't happened for a few months.

I rarely visit shops, and if I have to buy fuel I use the pay at pump (by card) option wherever possible.

Many of our local pubs take cards, but usually my wife goes to the bar anyway.

I know exactly the time and the day I last handled cash.

May 9th 1970. 2.30 p.m. I quietly bought my best man a drink at my wedding day reception.

My new wife spotted me and said "That's enough of that, thank you!"

That, good people is the last time I ever saw or handled cash......

Sorry folks, I can't remember when, but at my age now I can't afford cash!!! I have to pay with the card to get by…………………..

Saturday in the fish shop. Pound coins and some smash, but do admit I had almost forgotten how to do it...!
