YEA Bob i know what you mean if i shouted open fire J/R would think oh open fire an flames an he'd get all excited an we never hear the last of it LOL John an his fasination for flames LOL ps will he never grow out of it lolDo not shout open fire for gods sake, better off with shoot!
HI Rick perhaps that was the idea lol scare the hell out of the enamy with shells droppin all over an you may get lucky hits lol but thats what i was told mind you thinkin back they did say when they worked an presume thats just in theory as i cant see the R/N melting their gun barrells can you ? lol BUT Rick lookin at a close up pics of the guns it looks to me that they have cooling pipes around the barrels but i may be wrongAt that rate the guns would heat up so badly, the accuracy would go to Hell and all they would be doing is throwing metal and not hitting their intended target. LOL :tongue-out3: Rick H.
THATS Right John an Rick ive put on here a real pic of them 6inch guns on tiger an if you zoom in on the barrels they look like there are cooling pipes around the gun barrels pic below so maybe they could fire at that rate without melting the gun barrelsRather like the Katyusha rocket launcher, just saturated the area and terrified the Germans.:smiling3:

HI Paul thanks for the link but could you please download the pics if they are not copyright as i dont want to get you in trouble but i cant look at this site as my pc wont let me cheersMore info here re the 6 inch Naval Guns -
6 inch qf
Section 2 - "Gun Characteristics" - Note 1 at the end mentions how these guns were cooled.
Near the bottom of the page, there are some piccies including the shell fired - compared to a .303 case.
HTH.
Paul.
:smiling:
WELL Rick thats what i thought when i was first told as i dint even think the guns were auto an the rate of fire i could not beleive either an i may have got this wrong about this as it was some months ago that the tiger gent told me so ive emailed him to ask again if i have got it right now untill i hear from him we will put a big ? on this ok with you an hold on i think he has just emailed me i'll go offline an see but Rick im glad you are questioning this as i could not beleive it anyway i'll have a look at his email an sorry Rick it was Bob the stug email an not the tiger gent so we will have to wait RickUniform accuracy requires all things to be consistent....and the other question I have is the magazine capacity to feed all these guns at a sustained rate of fire @ 90 to 120 RPM and the speed at which the ammo elevator travels and the ability of the crew to keep it full.........I'm having trouble grasping this in real time. If the rate of fire is something that the guns are capable of as a maximum parameter in their design concept, I'm ok with that.....but one and a half to 2 rounds per second is just (in my mind) not a practical working reality for any length time in a combat situation. Cheers, Rick H.
HI TIM yea i got it wrong AN I CANT SEE the link as my pc wont let meIn Paul’s link the ROF is given as 15-20 rpm.......the ammo hoists held about 80 seconds of ammo....its an interesting read.
an yes you are right Rick sorry i got it wrong but gettin old duh lolThat sounds a little more realistic Tim. Rick H.
