Hi guys. Just a note to let you know I'm still about.

I saw the neurologist about my shaky hands on Tuesday. The good news is that it is essential tremors and not something serious like a tumour or summat. The better news is that he thinks it can be controlled by medication so no nasty surgical stuff. The not so good news is that it's apparently quite fiddly to set the dosage of the medication correctly. Too much or too little doesn't do much good. The idea is to start me on a small dosage and gradually build up to the correct amount - which could take a few months.

So it looks like I'll be back at the bench, but not sure when.

PS. For anyone out there who likes a good Sci Fi story, I've been doing a lot of reading recently and come across a couple of really good stories:

Fadeout by Patrick Tilley
The Trigger by Arthur C Clarke & Michael Kube-McDowell.

Both are well written and have lots of thought-provoking ideas - well worth a punt for those who prefer their Sci Fi to be serious.

Not like Star Wars - the Emperor could have kept his empire if he'd just taught his troopers to shoot straight instead of wasting all that time and effort on Death Stars!

Good to hear you'll be mending Dave. I don't think the Death Star is a waste of time...the world today might even be the same in the future with huge fabrication contracts for building, kickbacks, employment, money grabbing politicians and conglomerates just vying to build one or maybe two. Just on a bigger scale I guess. :smiling6:

Sorry don't read much or into Sci-Fi...better at visual stuff or anything WW2.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Dave.....I have the same Malady as you.......Doc. has me on time release Propranolol...60 mg once a day. Hasn't eliminated it completely but has sure made a difference.....watch out for side effects, I've been known to suffer from extended periods of scale modeling, day and night with some bouts of figure painting as well.....so not all bad. ;) :thumb2: Rick H.

Hi Dave

Good to hear you've got a diagnosis. Hope the dosage gets sorted out quickly.

ATB.

Hi Dave
Getting a problem diagnosed is half way to getting it sorted. I hope it doesn't take long for you to get to the correct dose and that you're back at the bench soon.

Hi Dave, good news that problem has been diagnosed, hope all goes well for you.:thumb2::thumb2::thumb2:

Sounds like progress Dave. As you say, balancing the dose might take time, but it will be done sooner or later. Without a diagnosis nothing changes….
Great news really….just stick with it and don’t get disheartened if it takes longer than you think.

Dave,
hang on in there! it may take a while to get the doseage right, but it's progress................

One problem you may have if you ever stop having to take it, is … shaking hands. I took propranolol for about seven years for something else entirely, and when I stopped, I couldn’t do any modelling for a number of days because of my hands shaking just enough that it was almost impossible to do any fine work.

Oh, and for good SF: The Expanse, both the novels (by James S.A. Corey) and the TV series (on Amazon Prime).

Some say their inaccuracy is down to Jedi mind control, forcing them to miss.

Don’t worry about side effects Dave. They are only a problem if they are as bad or worse than the illness…..every drug has them. Don’t trust us! Just check in with your specialist if you need to clarify anything.
