Music while building

Yes, cajun blues….saw Queen Ida at Cambridge back in the day as well…..

Had a bit of a Pearl Jam and Guns & Roses afternoon whilst doing some building (and IOSH training). Was rather nice to go back a little.

So ... you are a posh Cambridge toff ja? Ach mensch, alles verloren!
Nah, used to take my motor bike to Cambridge folk festival with a few mates….saw the Pogues, John Lee Hooker, and Alexis Corner there (along with many others) as well….

Very nice ... so many singers, so many songs, so little time ! :smiling4:

…and John Martyn, Joan Baez, The men they couldn’t hang, Lindesfarne, Chas and Dave (superb live), Martin Carthy…… the list was pretty much endless! Always someone superb that you hadn’t heard of before…..

Indeed so! I'm going into my music and see if I can't add a few more - like Christy Moore, Steeleye Span, Capercaille, Runrig - need I go go on? Salivating at the thought of those happy days - time for a Sauvignon methinks!

Saw all of those there as well Steve ;) Runrig were very early in their career…..I went from 82 to 88…line ups here. I’d love to turn back the clock…..

Thanks for refreshing my memories Tim - now I can plough a memory furrow and search my back album CDs :thumb2:
... and as an adjunct I was a (very) respectable folk singer (and Chantyman) in the folk heydays of the late Sixties and Seventies -even part of an LP when Folk Music in the Forces was the 'Thing'! Reasonable Bodhran player and one-time Green Man and Fool! Forgive me for beating my gums!
Steve

Pretty cool mate. While you’re looking at the back catalogue, look out Ragged Kingdom by June Tabor and the Oysterband…..fantastic it certainly is!

Pearls from the Oysters - absolute classic!

Bit newer, Bella Hardy, songs lost and stolen….another excellent album! Oh, while I’m at it, anything by the Carolina Chocolate Drops or Rihannon Giddens. Anything you can recommend?

Steve, Tim. If you like folk music then if you could stretch your taste out to some non-English music, i can highly recommend Skald, Eivor, Garmarna, Heilung and Wardruna

Something to look out for….got to be better than some of the dross my pub band plays….

Alan, thanks for that - I will definitely check these bands out; I can definitely pass some alternatives to you once the effect of a day on the p--s with some ex-squaddy mates has worn off! World folk music has been my comfort zone for many a year - and may it remain so I hope!

The Albion Band - in all its iterations - superb sweep of themes!

Saw Ashley Hutchins both with them and his own band , I’ve also got half a dozen of his albums, including the Morris on stuff……saw a great Easter song set in Salisbury art centre about thirty five years ago….I do need to get out more LOL…..
Check Rhiannan Giddens, seriously! Probably the best around at the moment. She’s replaced Sandy Denny (not Joni though) in my affections !
