Imma well enjoying this, after 2 1/2 yr hiatus, browsing n buying.... i feel the Styrene Mistress returning lmao
This eves progress, i made the rear body panel as per sides, cut all off sheet, 100% flat :thumb2::smiling: So I'm a happy builder boy.... I cleaned up apertures in tailgate, sorta lol more refining coming, feel good with 'my kit' parts.....
Added a 5thou shim on wheelarch? boxings.... some do have a wee bit 'bigger' look.... so i went with it....
Out loud.... for myself, "this is a lesser cast member"

Am I right in thinking you made the half-round steps in the tail gate by punching out a full circle, then glueing half of it back in?

Had a blitz this afternoon.... i went for it..... using a smol engineers block and an ancient adjustable square setting it together.....
So i present...... 90% me 10% IBG LOL coz i was lazy....
So that where i am, and as said some ol' skool scratchery, hmmmmmmm....... the force is strong in this one

I wondered because all I’ve ever been able to find is white … I kind of wonder if black (or some other colour) might stand up better over time? (Old styrene on a model gets brittle, is my experience, bit I don’t know if this is limited to the white kind.)
Which reminds me I need to put some tape on my roof window again. (There is a sunshade on it, but it leaves a few centimetres open on each side, so on sunny days I used to have two bright stripes of light across my work surface. Not exactly great, but some opaque tape solved the problem. Except, of course, that over a few years, the tape deteriorates in that same sunlight and comes loose.)
Evergreen seems to last the best in my experience as well. I too have some that is at least thirty years old and as good as the day it was bought. Slaters is not so good. It gets a bit brittle, probably because the plasticisers gas off over time. I have some in a mixed pack of strip that is about fifty years old and still usable, but cracks if you bend it too much. The evergreen strip is also far better in other ways. It is absolutely square and appears to have a sawn, rather than guillotined, edge. Slaters rod lasts much better, but god knows what is is. It is completely different in texture….evergreen Rod is just like the sheet….

I have used white, cream, red, and black myself, but know brown, green, light and dark blue, and yellow were also available. It’s trade name was Bextrene, by the way. Apparently Slaters just bought in eight by four sheets and clipped it down and repacked it for sale. At one time they would do large sizes to special order.
