Been in the stash for awhile so eni meini mini moe that‘s the one,I also have the clutch and fork detail set was looking for the wheel set till i saw the price and no availability, so with the up most intrepidation i will try to respoke the wheels never tried before so ill give it a go the kit wheels look ok but a lot of flash on them and mould risers. Other contenders picture 3 but RC wins this time after that chopper need something familiar to play with…

Re-spoking is a lot easier than it looks and sounds.
I did the wheels on my Italeri Triumph, and that turned out far better than I had expected. Biggest tip I can give is buy plenty of hard wire and a good pliers to cut and bend them. Take a head on view of the parts befor you start. DONT cut all the spokes out in one go. Just enough to be able to get in and work. Doing that keeps the hub in centre and be able to remember the lacing pattern and order...
Dont forget to put the tube over the spoke for the adjuster nut thingies and the air valve! Oh and cut them longer than you need them, lace them then glue then and trim them afterwards.
Phew.
I will look forward to this build as it is a bike I have always wanted to build.

Look forward to seeing what you do with this one Simon. Great advice from Ian as well. It will probably turn out quicker and more satisfying than cleaning up mould seam marks from the originals. If you buy nickel silver pin wire you won’t even have to paint them LOL……

so no pressure there then!! I’v rebuild the real thing a couple of times so i think I should be fine
thanks for all the advice ill try and do it justice… materials are ordered stainless piano wire and silver tube.
looks like a simple pattern and i wont need to tension them either like the real ones thats the hard part making them all sound the same

managed a day out today with the wife to watch the British touring cars championship at Knockhill fantastic day out as the guests of laser tools who run car 16 & 17 even got 2 grid walks and some great pictures of the brolly girls and the cars will post some later on when my phone recharges been a packed weekend

Brilliant - not seen that before! - he certainly was a Playboy, didnt know or care how to set up a race bike - but he certainly rode the hell out of them. Sadly just before my time watching racing, although I saw him riding his winning Ducati on a parade lap at the TT in 1980 - have a photo in storage somewhere.......... What a hero and what a terrible way to die :disappointed:

Ok so i managed to order the stainless tube and wire for the spokes but!!
i was off to dip these over night so i cut the rims of the sprue and started a trial fit up thats when i noticed this
but when you cut away the sprue your left this

Tamiya have already spoked these and there clean sorry my mistake must learn to study all the instructions before making assumption's so i will assemble first and post the pictures and if these look like the dogs ***** i will leave as is, disapointing really i was looking forward to the challange so i found these kit‘s to do with spoked wheels any preferance?


and ill try and build it along side the rc166.there all 1/12th to suit my material

To be clear, cut from the round sprue, on the sprue, the left overs and the centre rim for the nipples and outer rims, lot of parts for 2 wheels might be a challenge in it self .

I know I couldn’t kick one over now. Mine had a decompressor lever but I never worked out how to use it LOL. No internet in those days I just used to get it to TDC, the. Throw myself up and come down on it straight legged. Fired every time…..but you needed boots with a good heel.

Thumbs and knees spring to mind numbed them a few times, always when you least expected it,

A bad kick back only happened to me once. That was when I realised the value of boots with a good heel :anguished:. My foot slipped off as I was kicking it over. Never quite went over the bars, but it was close. My ankle was hit by the kick lever and was so bruised it looked like I was wearing a purple sock :anguished: . The kick start bump stop was fractured and blown straight through the engine casing. I could get a spare bump stop no problem, but the casing was another matter. I stripped it, cleaned and degreased it thoroughly, roughed up the edges of the hole with a coarse file to aid adhesion, and built up a repair patch out of 24 hour araldite over several days. Last job was reinforcing the outside with a square of aluminium sheet. It was a right bodge job, but I was an impoverished 19 year old and it stayed oil tight for the couple of years I owned the bike.
