For my next model, when the French Sd.Kfz. 251 is finished (construction-wide, anyway), I need some reasonably major bits from a Leopard 2. After an attempt to get hold of somebody’s leftover or partly built kit failed, I decided to buy the cheapest one I could find:

Plus some other bits I need or that will prove useful in general. The bottle of glue (blue cap) may surprise those who’ve read about how I make my own, but it’s really there for the bottle … the brush in the one I’ve been using is knackered Also some primer-with-the-stupid-name, because I decided to give it a try plus same-brand cleaner to hopefully get it out of my airbrush again — and, because I saw it on the web site I ordered this stuff and wanted to try it, also this thing:

A glass file … I had never heard of such a thing existing, but why not see how well it works? Here’s a close-up that I hope shows the back of it reasonably well:

The glass nail file was first patented in Switzerland over 50 years ago. Most are made with Czech glass that’s been tempered and is therefore uniquely wear-resistant. That means you can file and file and file and the abrasiveness will stay just as strong. Normally used to file nails ( human :smiling3: ) Let us know how it fairs please.

I have no idea. Could well be that one said to the other, “How about selling tools from one of us in the other’s packaging?”

I didn’t know that, but it makes sense — when I was running my fingers over the file a bit to get a feel for how fine it is, I thought it might make a good nail file The box does say to only use it on plastic, and specifically warns not to use it on metal because that will wear it down quickly.

I used to have a coupe of these not sure but got them from wilko ,BnM ,super drug one of thoes sort of places whilst looking for emery boards they weren't as well defined as yours much smoother but lasted for ages being the only male in the house these kind of items mysteriously disappear.

Did not want to spend a fortune on another airbrush and saw this reviewed on you tube, and for £36.40 inc postage via Aliexpress thought I would get one, even if the spares were useable it has to be a bargain. But the review results were good so it now remains for me to make a hash of it.... You get everything in the pic except the laptop... Airbrush, two different needle sizes, three end caps, spare paint holders, cleaning brushes and reamer, water trap, quick release x2 and the air hose. But beware when ordering as there are similar but they come with a powerpack. I will let you know later today what i think.

All Ebay auction wins - highest price £14.45, lowest £6.35 ( delivered prices ) - quite satisfied with that!

Dave, that Mirage kit will not let you down. My Mirage 'Campbeltown' had 'Thousands of bits' and was great fun to build.

OK, had a play with the new 'brush and it performed well and in fact put some of the more expensive ones to shame. Came with an 0.3 needle fitted and also has 0.5 and 0.2 needles included. All in all well pleased.

I've got an Airfix reboxing of the Mirage model, but it's in 1/400 scale.............

I'm a big fan of my HobbyZone paint hangers, they're great for 17ml dropper bottles but their solution for other bottles, four slightly canted shelves, is not great.
Found these from EMBA hobby, similar idea, holds a lot and reasonably inexpensive.
Just have to rearrange my wall now.

Hello Karl, I found that after a year or so the back started to come away from the frame, but some Gorilla glue sorted out that problem....

I had to reassemble the HobbyZone ones as the hanger part delaminated. I've glued every contact point on these, and may even pin the back panels in place.

I know, it was like a circus act when I first realised what was happening, I first glued one part and the next day another part had come adrift, be carefull when pinning as the 'wood' is like pressed cardboard.

Yeah it's MDF, glueing the edge taking the pin helps, as does really narrow pins. 24ga should be fine.

Hi Karl,

Drilling out the pieces with a drill bit that's smaller than the pins will keep them straight and not split the MDF. A good wood glue and the pins should hold them together. I did this with all my hanging HZ wall racks, and they are still in one piece...
