Barton On Sea - I spent many childhood summer holidays at Highcliffe, next along on the coast & we used to walk along the cliff tops at BartonDown on the South coast at Barton on Sea photographing some para gliders when a Kestrel got in on the act! I wanted one of them in the same shot and ended up with one that looked like it was hitching a lift

Keyhaven, just to the East, is a great place to walk and watch lots of wading birds. I’ve seen spoonbills there as well.

Nice one reminds me of the sparrowhawks we have around here they’re great for keeping rodents down.

Pretty much what it is Rick. Imported into the UK by the Romans from Asia apparently……Not a "bird" expert......sort of reminds me of a Chinese Ring Neck.

This cold snap has certainly brought some different birds into the garden . Normally we only have Starlings ,Sparrows ,Blackbirds , Doves and Pigeons, but have had recent visitors including a Wren and Blue Tits. Won't be long now until the Gold Finches turn up.Used to see Field Fare on the way to the workshops in the fields .
Love Fieldfares and Redwings, very colourful thrushes! We usually get a couple in the garden eating berries when they first come over. Don’t get goldfinches until later in the winter here. Greenfinches have become quite rare as well. My favourites are the long tailed tits. They look like feathered lollipops

I was just about to look for this post...
Anyway a pair of Spider Hunters are building their nest suspended on a wind chime in our porch.
Was wondering why they were so interested with the wind chime. Very vocal with their high pitched cheeps. SWMBO asked me to erect a screen to shade the nest from the scorching sun...boy did they make a racket, annoyed that it was in their flight path so I did the next best thing...shift the chime further in away from direct sunlight. It worked. I'll try to get some photos.

They are castings Richard……..
Not a great image, but a little egret fishing in our pond. About half the size of a heron. Little bugger had one goldfish before we chased him off. Not seen him since though so think he was migrating. Quite a bright lad…..fell in the deep bit, floundered his way out, then sat in the edge fishing rather than going in again.
This is what they look like to the uninitiated……
They were hunted to extinction in a lot of areas during the Victorian age just for those neck plumes (used as hat decorations). I can forgive him a couple of fish in exchange for that outrage.
