Scale Model Shop

boatman's 1/72 HMS Tiger C20 build

Hi Chris

Good to hear that she has nearly crossed the finish line. Very well done.

Out of interest, do you need to add any additional ballast to make sure she's not top heavy, or are the mechanics and batteries already inside enough?

Again great work.

I'm still loving this build Chris; it's looking superb! What are you going to start once Tiger goes into the attic? Perhaps a half-scale coracle to remind Matron of her happy, childhood days boating on the Fens?
Steve
WELL Steve im just thinkin at the moment of its another same tiger but oppiste end of the scale as my freind paul was goin to build her like i have but once he met me an found out then he is now building her as a gun cruiser but he bought a 1/700 scale model on my vershion but as he not doin it now then he gave me the model so im thinking of doin it on a dio with a saescape base just for a break from big models how's that for an ansewer to you question ?

AN HI Andrew well i wont know how she will sit in the water till she is in but to be on the safe side im takin thin slisers of lead to lay in the hull till she sits right so untill the day its all unknown an no doubt there will be problems on the day so just got to take all the things in a bag that i may need but of coures knowin sods law it will be a prob that i cant do anything about till i get her home again but will see on the day

Serious question and not a leg pull! What do you do if it is too heavy and sits below the waterline....

Chris, I've got a load of old lead pellets (must be something like 50lbs - barely able to lift the ammo box that they're in!) that I can bring, along with a few plastic bags which would keep them all together.

WOW Ian if that happens then i will just remove an unbolt the half inch sqaure metal keel weghts as there are 4 on her but i dont think it will happen as when she was in the test tank admittedly there was not everything on her but the hull was so boayance it took 50 POUNDS OF BATTS to get her down to half way on her black water line BUT this now is all unknown so when get to the pond it will be tests on top of tests like ive done on my big NIMITZ CARRIER AN SHE WAS 9 FT LONG AN NEAR TWO AN A HALF FT WIDE DUE TO THAT BIG OVER HANGIN FLIGHT DECK BUT my boaty mate just pushed her out into the pond an there was a gale blowin an i thought as its so big the overhang would be a wind trap an send her turning turtle but she sailed like a trooper an my boaty mate said i worry to much as he said i build them good but he nr gave me a heart attack but im not tellin him this time when i take tiger as i dont want him doin it again as tiger is a differnt kettle of fish what with that big S/S ON HER TO CATCH THE WIND an boy will i be nervous BUT Ian many thanks for your question as it could do what you say

OK Gerry bring them but im also bringin thin roofin lead to lay in her hull as like Garry (twros) said on his IRON DUKE that she was not sittin all ok IN HER POND TEST an would need to be balanced up but not till he has fitted everything on as these ships what sail by R/C ARE COMPLEX an sometime there are serval probs that compounds the probs but i find it all good fun an frustratein at times if i cant find out what the prob are an rememeber im usein a new 2.4 GIGAHERTS R/C that ive never used before so there maybe range probs meaning that the ship may not get the radio signals probley an im not sure if there is a fail safe built into the T/X but i will study the instucbooklet to find out WELL i think that about covers most things but AGAIN SODS LAW OR GREMLINS MAY STRIKE

I think that's more than reasonable Chris - now get a move on and produce your next masterpiece. Your audience awaits ... !

Not my missus Chris - my mate 'knew' a 'Lady' of somewhat generous proportions; the combined effects of bravado, combined alcohol intake and beer goggles led to this scenario - was more than funny at the time though! I think he destroyed the Polaroids!

an just thinking Ian here is a shot of her in the test tank an she is loaded down with 50 pound of batts in her an if you zoom in on the pic you will see that she is only half way up her black water line an i dont think she is that heavy but maybe wrong on that but look where the water is on the black water line so she maybe ok in the pond an here there is no keel wheights on her yet
