Totally agree. I watch the cruel sea and in which we serve at least once a year…..Tis what my pal would call a 'classic' which mean the 'dogs' of films!!!! Love all the oldie sea war movies. Black and white only means it's a real classic!!!
Re @boatman new filum, (that's Geordie for film), I was privileged to have been able to read a member of HMS Exeters encounter with the German pocket battleship. He was an electrician responsible or power supply to one of Exeters guns. He went on to tell how the bulkheads ballooned out to press him against the power switchboard then popped back into place. When he and his comrade tried to exit their compartment they found the deck above was on fire with burning oil. They had to remain below deck in scorching heat in the middle of the battle. He survived but I found the read compelling. After 25 years in the RN myself I have never experienced anything even close to that. Brave men all of them, ours and the Germans. Not just fighting the enemy but also the sea!!Totally agree. I watch the cruel sea and in which we serve at least once a year…..
...... and the right old classic...Totally agree. I watch the cruel sea and in which we serve at least once a year…..
Not a 'classic' as in age but 'Das Boot'. The original. Bl**dy superb....... and the right old classic...
"Sink the Bismarck"!!![]()

Indeed...I have it on DVD....the languages is a bit too much for Junior though.....a real shame. Not a 'classic' as in age but 'Das Boot'. The original. Bl**dy superb.

The book is even better……Not a 'classic' as in age but 'Das Boot'. The original. Bl**dy superb.
TBH, I never knew there was a film!! Guess I'll have to keep my peepers open for that. I've only ever watched the mini-series, (once or thrice). The follow up mini-series wasn't up to much I thought. And there’s a behind-the-scenes book about the miniseries/movie (watch the miniseries, BTW, it’s better than the movie) that is also rather good. Interesting models in it too :smiling3:
