The Smythemeister's TBF/TBM 1 Avenger. Italeri 1/48

Ummmmm Mr. Smiff....why did you put a 1-72nd scale crew into a 1-48th scale wing thing? :tongue-out3: :tears-of-joy::tears-of-joy:;):thumb2:

What a size Andy, a great lumbering beast on the ground, bet it was different in the air.

Nice build, Andy even if instructions are not so helpful. :thumb2:
As per the cockpit in the backyard (pic from google maps), I really think it's a Canberra.

Hope you don’t mind me dropping this in your thread Andy, (I’ll delete it if you wish :thumb2: ) seemed fitting after the discussion regarding the turret.

Geoff.

Splendid work Andy. I'm another who didn't actually realise how big this beast was, until I saw one of your figures deep down in the fuselage.

Ha!..... Yeah, they do look a little "lost" in there eh?! ;)
brilliant progress Andy, you'll be finished with this in no time at all...
Cheers Chris..... not sure about that though, things have slowed right down!

Certainly is a whopper eh John.... in that pic it looks more the size of a twin engined bomber to me ! ;)
Apparently not John. Pilots said it flew like a truck :tongue-out3:
Yep, I've read that about them too Tim...... and VERY vulnerable to the Zeros ;)

Thanks Andy, the internet has been a God send for helping to build this.As for the Canberra, that does seem to be the popular thought. :smiling3:

No problem at all Geoff,in fact it's much appreciated.... an interesting clip, and quite moving too.... As the plane tipped when pushed off the deck,it looked kinda like an Angel, with it's wings folded back like that ..... how appropriate!

Thanks Colin, and yes,it looks almost like a "two storey" fuselage! ;)

IMG20230518180441.jpg
.... I like to call it "Organised Chaos"!! ;) ) .... and here we are now, waiting for the coat of "Intermediate Blue"....
IMG20230518191411.jpg
..... hoping to get that on this afternoon :)
So there it is at the moment, looking forward to seeing the camo come together,it seems to have been a long haul !!
Thanks for looking in,as always,any thoughts, suggestions,or plain ole abuse,muchly appreciated :)

Coming on very nicely Andy :thumb2:

Painting is always a land mark part of a build in my opinion. It’s when it starts to come to life :smiling4:

It's back again now Geoff?! ... I wanted to show it to Rach,(she's always interested in a little bit of history with my builds. ;) ), But it was just a white box with a cross in it... It's ok now though! :)
Looking good mate paint work looks nice.
Cheers Scottie.... Just about to remove the masking after the blue. ;)

Ok, sorry to bombard you with posts today!! BUT, the Intermediate Blue has been unmasked :smiling3: ...
Not TOO bad really,a few touch up areas to address,(in the 2nd pic mainly),and in the pics it looks lighter than to the naked eye, but overall I'm quite pleased.... :smiling3: .....

... made things a bit tricky for myself for the next stage of masking,( for the US Navy Blue),but hey!.... in for a penny.... ;)

Andy, great progress bud, would I be correct in saying 'no primer'?
Thanks mate :)
It has had a touch of Halfords Grey primer,(I use that on all of my builds),I find it doesn't need much, settles well, and leaves pretty much all of the details prominent. ;)
