We have one simple 4way intersection roundabout in our metro area. A real success in moving traffic. Here is one planner's fever dream, I have nightmares about, for our dense residential neighborhood of $250K to $450K homes.

HA!! Yep,looks mad Paul :flushed:!!...
... But on the positive side,at least they're trying to do SOMETHING about increased traffic...
.. down here,they're building, quite literally,THOUSANDS of homes and doing diddly squat to the infrastructure.... and most of our roads are tiny,in fact you'd probably call them "Lanes"!! :sad:

I am constantly amazed at the amount of two way one lane roads on your islands and in Europe generally. You probably do call them lanes. I'll not soon forget our on board navigation system put us on a dirt path ( two tire paths separated by wild grasses) alongside a fence line through a farmers' meadow to get to the Bastogne museum area.
 
That is not a proper roundabout. The figure-8 shape is not a major problem, but I can see the part on the right being one, where the roundabout merges into, what, a four-lane, dual carriageway road? Traffic on that road will have right of way, which will probably pretty much kill the flow on the roundabout because cars coming from the lower right will have to wait for those entering from the dual carriageway at upper right.

But maybe I’m wrong :)
 
I would imagine that will soon feature in American crash videos on Youtube. :smiling5:

In the UK, the traffic on the roundabout would have priority.

Yeah!! Agree, look at what they're doing around Paignton and Brixham!!! Just love all those queues!!!!!
 
Used to be a compass roundabout going into Southampton, the worse one I've ever used was the one where you could drive either way ! Loads of mini roundabouts at every road entering .Imagine one large oval and a road that went right a around . Two way traffic, and these mini round abouts at every junction .

With Magic roundabout you can go through the middle as well John…..

That looks understandable Paul. Once you get used to using it, there should be no problems.
We have a cure to the traffic problem in the UK, it is called Sadiq Khan and his ULEZ (Ultra Low Emmision Zone) scam. This is where you pay £12.50 every time you use your car inside the zone. The problem occurs when all of the other local government councils decide to adopt his lunacy.
 
But there are 'give way' lines across the end of the dual carriageway. Those lines you're referring to are just 'keep in lane' markings.

Aaahhhh! zat is ze French way of doing satnav, you should have been driving in reverse instead of forwards....

There are also lines where the right part of the roundabout connects to the dual carriageway. It looks to me like there are too many lines, which will cause even more confusion than these things usually do in America :)
