Chris I have nothing against a messy bench and wish I could cope with a few bits and bobs lying around but I would never sleep :)

WELL Bri jen an i have been over vitory 4 times an but not for several yrs but if i rember rightly she was painted red inside so when the crew got hurt or killed the red blood wont look so bad against the red paint so easyier to clean up an not lower crew morale an i think it was painted white so the member of the public tourin over her could see trip points or head bags points as thats what i got told when on her first time an they wont let me video because of trippin an such

Brian

I can confirm that the inner bulwarks were in fact red. Sometimes the decking also was painted red, however in action it was liberally covered in sand to prevent the gun crews slipping. But as Chris says you should go with whatever colour suits you. White does make the interior more visible if thats what you are going for.

Yes John, you can only see the interior through the gun ports red would to dark to see anything really

According to the tests that were arrived out on the layers of paints.
The lower decks, not medical or admirals quarters were painted a a cheap lime wash or poor quality oil paint!
That is according to the 'Cricks Smiths' analysis.

Although on my visit many years ago it was a nice white colour. As you would expect from a museum!!!

A while ago I built a cross section of HMS Victory. I didn't do a great deal of research, just followed the instructions. I don't know if any of the pictures of my completed effort are of any use but there are some photos HERE. You're doing a great job Brian and I have no doubt your colours are far more accurate and well researched.

The gun decks being washed over with Lime wash/paint, would make sense as it would have a sanitising effect. The Gun openings and the inside of the covers red would also make sense. Didn't want those pesky French Pirates seeing they had drawn blood.
Not sure about the Bulwarks being red either. Being white would help see where the ship ended and the high dive began! Didn't want all the seamen falling overboard did we.

Not too worried about the lower decks there not seen and I have the aftermarket oak deck for the upper decks
