Been doing a bit of research on NIVO paint for my Heyford - NIVO means Night Invisible Varnish Orfordness - I wish I hadn't bothered! One of those paints that no-one seems to agree on. I'll be using acrylics, so enamels/lacquers haven't been considered. FS34096 seems to one front runner, but Dark Slate Grey another. I reckon I'll have to dig around in the paint locker, and see what I can find. I don't think there are any surviving aircraft with the NIVO finish, so no visual colour references, of course I could go for this. instead

Did Matchbox offer an all green version of this model ? I seem to remember when I was a lad, it was all green. However, I do like the look of yours Dave, with its healthy coat of yellow.

The Matchbox OOB is 'green', but it was actually NIVO - the yellow trainer job was just an alternative scheme I found, if I didn't care to look for what NIVO actually is - I actually dislike trainer yellow, I find it difficult to get a good finish................

NIVO, abbreviated from Night Invisible Varnish Orfordness (or "Night Varnish Orfordness"),[2] was a dark grey-green overall finish applied to British night bomber aircraft in the inter-war period (1918-1939).

NIVO-finished Vickers Vimy serial F8614 at the RAF Museum London
Developed in 1918 by the experimental station at Orford Ness, as a low-visibility colouring for the Royal Air Force it had a sheen to match that of open water on a moonlit night.[3]

It was applied to aircraft from 1918 and was used on the Vickers Virginia, Handley Page Hyderabad, Handley Page Hinaidi, Handley Page Heyfords and Fairey Hendon bombers.

By the mid 1930s, tests had determined that the varnish was too reflective when searchlights were shone on it.[3] NIVO was phased out in the late 1930s, and had been discontinued by the time of the arrival of the new British medium bombers - the Vickers Wellington, Handley Page Hampden and Armstrong Whitworth Whitley.

NIVO is covered by Federal Standard 595 colour FS:34096"
 
Colourcoats have a NIVO in their range, and so do Xtracrylic at Hannants.

I feel you Dave, as that is a lot of rigging to be done. I forgot I have the Felix-Stowe in 1/32 in the stash too. It's way too large to build or attempt to spray paint in my booth though and the rigging would probably give me a mental meltdown. I have the 1/32 Gotha UWD that is a bit smaller than the Felix, but has quite a bit of rigging to it!!! I just remembered I also have the 1/32 Lukgraph Friedrichshafen 33L in resin too...I need a bigger apartment.......

I saw a nice build of a Roden Felixstowe on youtube in 72nd scale.Loved it but think the rigging would give me the nadgers buddy.

Paul, the Hector was the last of the line of Hawker light bombers all derived from the Hart that served the RAF through the 'thirties. Hart, Hind, Audax, Demon, Hardy and Hector, plus the Osprey navalised Hart. And that's just the different named ones, as there's a dozen sub-variants for different engines and users. There's something like twenty different ones all told

Had a rough past couple of weeks, but with the new year and Ian's GB starting in 45 minutes, my time, I'll be going with this wing thingy for it...

It will be part of a dio, but that's for different post. Let's have fun guys and remember....Rigging isn't as bad as you think it is, you just need to drink a beer or two when you do it!!! Calms the nerves................
