Heres the excellent Airfix bf109e-4 in 1/72 . Finished as the aircraft of Franz von Werra - the only german pilot to escape from the Allies and return to Germany .
Von Werra was shot down over Winchett in Kent by Gerald ‘stapme’ Stapleton of 603 sqn flying a Spitfire and crash landed in a field on Loves farm. He was captured and taken to Maidstone , this is where his first of several escape attempts occured. After being transferred to Lancashire he tried again , was captured and sent to Derbyshire .Here he teamed up with several others and after digging a tunnel , four prisoners escaped , all the others quickly being recaptured . Von Werra had taken his flying suit and made his way to RAF Hucknall by pretending to be a Dutch bomber pilot . Here he was captured again after attempting to escape in a Spitfire , being apprehended as he sat in the cockpit trying to familiarise himself with the controls.
He was then sent to Canada where he escaped again , this time making it over the border to the USA ( at this point still neutral ) where he turned himself over to the authorities. While the authorities were trying to get him extradited back to Canada , the German consul helped him get over the border to Mexico . From there he travelled back to Germany via Brazil, Spain and Italy. 929A13B5-99BD-41A5-AC14-B3501959EB94.jpeg23F6BC81-4ED8-40B4-9D24-DED1E19EA4BC.jpeg20F542A5-8C11-4162-A344-AA9F643029DC.jpegF5EC6D1B-E319-4DAA-96EF-F5230D8E5B3F.jpeg3B0DA5CD-F0A9-412A-8206-E18A29670E13.jpeg5D27870C-ED98-4492-BECE-321571071D2A.jpeg6E72FDBF-1618-4A82-9E60-654AD17A84DC.jpeg5BF2F4FC-F153-41FA-8213-BF4E3088F57B.jpegBE5FE238-B93E-42D1-ABE9-F9F2F29B2964.jpeg9F53BE52-4B35-4B0E-8799-6DF3F410D99A.jpeg

That's a superb model Tony. Beautifully presented. The story that goes with it is straight out of The Boys Book of Adventure. Well done.

WoW!! hat's really clever, super well done

Miko (very impressed slightly envious)

An excellent rendition of a factual event nicely presented. Brilliant work Tony.

That's brilliant Tony. Really well presented and the fact that it's based on a real event makes it all the better.

Fantastic Tony, really enjoyed seeing this scene develop in your build thread. Comparing it to the original, you nailed it.

Fantastic little diorama! And I like your black and white pictures! Very well done.

Great finish, mucker!
I've enjoyed watching this all come together.
Top work!

Thanks everyone , I really enjoyed the challenge of this one what with the base and everything. The research was also very enjoyable , this is one of those stories that sounds too unbelievable to be true , no wonder they made a film about it!
Cheers Tony

Talk about brass neck ! Hat's off to the bloke. Anyway, top notch build again old boy. As Andy T points out, being based on an actual event, really brings the build to life.

WOW! That looks fantastic - very nice work :thumb2::thumb2::thumb2:

You did a great job of that folded prop!

Is that Goddfrey in the back ground, with Walker on the left preparing the salvage the scrap?

A lovely model and base and some really nice photos!
